    I don't think it's been this capable since '99.

And Moose is playing great. He started catching tough balls at the same time the offense opened up.

    This got me thinking....

We haven't had a 'complete' offense since '99. Moose, Jeffers, Walls. Even Timmay played OK, and we had Lane. B-line got it done.

This year - Delhomme, Davis, Moose, Smith, Proehl. It's working. I just re-watched the 2nd half, and we can pass the ball, and well.

This has made me re-think WR as a priority in the off-season. I don't think it is a priority. We need to re-sign Smitty. Keeping Dyson would be nice. But keeping the chemistry intact is important. We've got what amounts to a first year qb, and he's in a groove with these guys. Keep them, and make sure we have QUALITY depth. New England has done this - no superstars at WR, but a stable of quality and capable guys.

If we didn't need CB and LB more, I'd say drop the nut on a stud WR. But after the past few weeks, I'm thinking we're deep and strong at WR. We need CB and LB much worse.

Re-watching that second half got me stoked. We can toss the fuckin' rock if we want.

If corner isn't the top priority heading into the offseason, I don't know what is.

    Yes.

True, we need that third reciever. Someone with big play ability. Something.

But this offense, talent wise, god forbid, is as good as we have had.

Never have we had a weapon like Davis. Never have we had 5 lineman as good. And Moose, Smith, and Prohel may not be going to Hawaii, but theyv'e made plays when ask and compliment each other well.

    And Jake's exceeded expectations.

    Sounds pretty complete to me.

Now if we can start calling games like that. Cause a front 4 does not a complete defense make.

i think the reason our passing game is succesful is the willingness of delhomme to throw the ball down the field without hesitation. a lot of times, he has the check down available and even with pressure, he is willing to hold on for an extra second or 2 for moose, proehl or smitty to get open. look at delhommes pocket presence- he is willing to take the big shot in the mug for a completion- and that is something we havent had since beuerlein, but even with beuerlein, we werent a vertical team as much as we are this season. of course, our receiving corps was better in '99 with jeffers, walls and moose all around 10 tds each (i think it was 9, 12, 12 respectively).

but going back to our offense, i think the fans, the players, and the coaches all have confidence that we can make plays to move the ball down the field when needed to, we can make the plays to eat up the clock when needed to, and we have enough talent to consistenly put up 20+ppg. i kind of dismissed playcalling on sunday as a problem, but now that i think about it, our playcalling is not what it needs to be in the redzone. that is our major concern. the drive in the 4th quarter where we were 3 and out was solid playcalling in my opinion, we just did not execute. i liked the attack mode our offense took over, it showed that we had confidence in what we were trying to do. delhomme just had 2 mediocre throws on 2nd and 3rd down.

our running game is legit- our scheme has been exposed all year and davis still puts up 115 and he only rushed the ball 7 times in the second half.

basically, a facet of our squad that i thought was deficient in talent is not- we are very capable. now, henning and fox need to realize the correct way to use our talent. throw a screen every now and then- we know our linemen are can pull well and davis follows his blockers beautifully, work the middle of the field to the tight end. little things that can turn into big gainers is what is holding this offense back. we have the ability to punch yards out if we need to, we have the ability to get large chunks of yards, no we need to find a way to sustain drives by using our short game better.

Unless Steussie is letting his man blindside Jake, he's got exceptional pocket presence.

I really missed the checkdown pass to Davis in the flat, surely they were going to use that play at least once, even though it was shown last week.

I would like to see the WR screen used more to Smitty and Mushim.

I would like to see the hitch and catch play used during a "flea flicker" moment before desparation (not necessarily Cal-Stanford 2 at the end of last game).

Let's face it, this defense will give up 2 TDs a game, that is a given. We must limit our damage by mistakes that we will make to FGs. There is too many times we give up 3rd and very long without bringing the house. If I see another 3rd and 10+, I am bringing pressure and forcing them to make a play. I don't think the remaining teams on the schedule can consistently do that, including Vick at this point of the season.
