PFW suggests that Mitchell might be on his way out. As I've noted here before, he saves $2 million.

What then? Not much out there in free agency, and I don't want to be dependent on Nelson/Tylski.

Sadly, I can think back to when I was looking to start a "Cut the Brzez" campaign last year, and the big story on him was that he was learning how to play C and longsnap to stay on the roster.

I really hope we don't make this move...I still contend that Mitchell has been our best lineman every year since showing up in 01. With this style offense, being able to run block well at C means you can contain the DT that's following your pulling guard. If not, your back gets smacked about ten times per game in the backfield.

Yeah, I really don't see a way to upgrade our line by having to replace Mitchell along with the other spots. Mitchell was the only consistent player last year, and he's been consistent since we got him. I'd rather pay the money than create yet another problem on a problematic line. Unless we draft a C/G in round 2, I really don't see a way to get by without Mitchell. Granted, I haven't checked any free agents, but I doubt if any of them are as good as Mitchell. We have too many holes on that line to go create another one. But we cheaped out on it last year, so maybe we'll do it again. I sure hope the fuck not.

I think some of Wharton's success was because he was next to Mitchell. If we get a Brown or Bass, it would be nice if they could spend a season learning next to someone that knows the system and has been around the block.

am i the only one that thinks mitchell didn't play as well last year as he has in the past. even considering who he was next to, i didn't think he played as well. i certainly think he's the glue and without him that thing would crumble.

Mitchell isn't going anywhere . . . if our FO didn't learn their lesson last year then this team isn’t nearly as well run as any of us thought. I don’t even want to think about what would happen if we had to replace Mitch at this point . . . Okay, yes I do. Unless they plan on spending more money on a FA vet (who the fuck would that be???) or rolling king-sized dice by drafting a kid like Baas or Spencer earlier than most teams would ever even consider picking a Center . . .
Is it possible that they actually still believe that Nelson is going to miraculously defeat a degenerative chronic hip condition to replace Mitch? OR almost as insane, expect Tylski or Brz to fill his shoes?
Considering PFW is the source I think I’ll stick with my initial “Mitch isn’t going anywhere” reaction thanks.)

Hard to say on how he played. I thought his best year was 2003, and no one really stood out last year as good. But yeah, I think losing him after losing Donnalley means a worse line, regardless.

Our staff must have spotted some more ole buddy LBs and DLs out there. Hell, who needs an OL who makes as much as a fucking LB. $100,000 salary and a 20,000 signing bonus is enough to pay for a OL. Willig can fill in for the time being. There will be plenty of has beens out there after June.

I might just go off on these mutha fuckers if they pull that shit again this year. I'm beginning to think it's improbable that we take an OL before the third in the draft.

Can't wait to hear Fox reassure us about our OL again this year. Win or lose it's the FUCKING PLAN YOU IDIOT FANS !!!!!!!

Nelson was likely looked upon as a possible Mitchell replacement down the road when drafted.

That currently looks just as plausible as Donald Hayes going to the Pro Bowl without having to buy a ticket.

Doug Brezenski has has no business on this team past March. He's not a starter, despite being paid like one.

Michell's simply better, still. His replacement is not currently on this team.

Yeah, there's no way we can field an above average line without this guy, and IMO, it would be a mistake to flirt with letting him go. If it takes an extension to keep him, do it.

Not even if we drafted a RT #1 and went and got a free agent guard, since it'd take that much money above what we'd already spent to replace Mitchell.

I can't bare the thought of losing Mitchell at this point. It would pretty much grant us another 8-8/7-9 season or worse!
