If Fox is here he is gonna need to win. I would hope even his stubborn ass knows who gives him the best shot.

I really doubt he forces Jake back in as starter. I am still not sure the finger injury is legit.

let's also throw this in there.

Matt Moore has looked great in games but he's never won a competition. He could've easily beaten out McCown and didn't. He never outpaced David Carr, he got a shot because he was what was left on the end of the bench.

I guess he was good enough to not lose to Feeley in practice, I guess. But, if Jake is there and Jake wins (wins outright, not Rodney Peete-level winning), I dunno. That's kinda hard to argue with, too.

The best way to make sure that doesn't happen is to make sure he's gone. Fiscally will that be the right option? Maybe not.

Fox doesn't always play our best player at a given position. Often it seems to have less to do with talent and more to do with tenure. I really expect them to make excuses for Jake and give him every chance to win the job, and I don't think he even has to play better than Moore in the preseason to win it.

Not saying that it will end up the same, but it's reminiscent of the Beuerlein situation where Seifert let Steve go because he knew Lewis couldn't beat him in open competition. Whether Jake is here or not, we need competition in camp, whether it's Jake vs. Matt vs. X, or Matt vs. X vs. Y. Hopefully there will be a clearcut winner, unlike the Rodney Peete winning like you mentioned.

agree, though sometimes our best player at a position (DW, for instance) isn't yet up to the task. Sometimes coaches like the Nick Goings' that you know more than the Eric Shelton that doesn't give a shit.

Who the fuck cares about camp competition? What good did that do this year? In what way was Delhomme better this year in ANY game than Moore? Because Delhomme 'beat' Moore.

    Moore's the guy.

I've never watched a Panthers practice, but people say Jarrett looks good in practice. For example.

I know there are guys who play better than they practice, but in a coach's defense it's hard to find that out if they don't play. Not Fox specifically, but any coach. And, noted, that's a large part of what preseason is about and Moore sucked preseason, pretty much for two years running.

But Moore now has something besides practice (edit: and preseason) for Fox to go on.

edit #2: Bad for team morale to shove a fail down the team's throats, I think that was possibly a factor in a couple of losses.
