please differentiate for me between he was open and "bad play call." i'm stupid about these things but it would seem to me that if he was open and the play (TD?) was there if the qb hadn't floated the pass, that the play call wasn't the problem.

i think he's questioning the play based on the personnel on the field.

so if the other receiver is not smith, that means barnidge was more of threat, getting most of the attention of the defense. wr gets single coverage but moore throws instead into an impossible situation.

i don't think going to the te in that situation is generally a bad call. going to the te when the defense is essentially laughing at the other option you have on the field is a bad call. you have single coverage on a guy for a score, and rather than throw it that direction, it's thrown into a scrum around your 3rd te. if the wr can't catch, what is he doing on the field? he ran a route, so he wasn't there to block.

I think not having Smith and formation on that play was to fool the D into thinking it was going to be a run play.

But it was a bad pass by Moore. Last game there was very little shot, timing passes and he held the ball too long most times and stared down his recievers too much.

Add bad OL play to that, run and passpro, and the O was bad.

The D was pretty good in the first half, but fell apart in the second, specifically the secondary, as well as seemingly good adjustment by the Gmen at half time. You know, those halftime adjustment thingies the Panthers haven't seemed to get much of a grasp of during Fox's tenure.

watched it in full screen. barnidge is very briefly open, at least as open as he was going to get, at the 5.

along the top, at the 10, the wr beats the coverage just enough that the same pass, floaty and all, that moore tossed would have a better chance of being completed, assuming of course that our defective wr could catch it after beating single coverage.

    moore never looks that way.

Should have run the ball with D. Will or J. Stew on that play anyway.

stewart is in there. it looks like they went max protect with king on the left and stewart in pass protection. giants got no pressure. moore just blew it very badly.

Yeah, that was when I was really cussin' delhomme, er, moore with a delhomme cussin'.

Threw into a double team, had Stewart on the left there too. He must not look left.

If we coulda scored there, we were still in the game and hadda chance.

The personnel grouping i question. 2nd and 8 is not an obvious running down...most would contend it is a passing down. Heck, in a running formation, we didn't even play action. You might be able to fool them a little if you line up in a running formation, but once you go into a 5-step drop, everyone in the building knows it is a pass. To me, just because Barnidge was open for a split second doesnt mean that it is a good play call...at least in my opinion. Even if Moore had zipped it in there, the window was still very small. Give Grant some credit too...he made a great play on the ball and went over Barnidge to make the pick.

Joes son, Nate Montana got a couple snaps for the Irish in the Michigan game last weekend when Crist got injured. He's the spitting image of Joe BTW.

I wonder where he will end up in 2-3 years?
