Not to mention the software I use simply is not available on a Mac whatsoever and no major company is ever going to switch over as long as I am alive.

most all new software should now be labeled universal which means you use the same disk to install on intel based macs as you do windows...

my next computer will be the intel based imac, my macs at work are not intel, but i love them...yes, we do graphics, but they way it comunicates with everything and how smooth it is with everything it does really leaves winxp behind...it's like comparing apples to oranges...

I can't run SQL Server on a Mac. I can't run industry standard data analysis software on a mac. You could use some software that mimics windows but why?

I'm not really trying to argue that one is better than the other, just differant uses. If it's so easy why can't the mac owners I know ever get their office network to work correctly?

    Because Macs don't do infrastructure.

It took them days to get their wireless working and to set up the printer. It took me about 5 minutes to do the same.

you absolutely use the computer that has the software you need. however, with the new intel based macs, you can install windows -- in fact, i understand there's even a way to run windows natively (not emulated) inside the mac environment (don't think it's available yet).

it is certainly more expensive to get a mac. if i could run osx on my windows box (without resorting to hacks) then i would have that set up as an alternate partition. i would much prefer to work with unix based system than with windows. and math, i don't think i'd call unix "simple".

Why would you pay more to turn it into Windows?
