Of course it's been trending that way in every team sport, but I think it's finally crossed that threshold. I saw an NBC promo for the SF/SEA game that was just Kaepernick vs. Wilson, basically. No mention of the two potential SB teams. And I fully understand that it's easier and more marketable to do it that way.

"Yep NFL Matchup used to be the shit back in the day. I can't remember even seeing it in the last 4 or 5 years.

I'd rather watch Jaws breaking down the film for 2-3 hours vs the idiots blabbering on about nothing on the pregames."

It's like this quote from Smoke Screen on another thread. Celebrity has trumped content. It's Orwellian or Bradbury or something like that. Substance and content has been replaced by image. Maybe it has been like that for a long time now, but it seems to be just getting worse.

I don't add substance to this board, by the way. But I appreciate those of you who know xs and os and stick around to discuss.

I'd love more stuff like NFL Matchup on TV, but I also understand the plight of network execs. It's an ADHD world and most people simply don't want detailed football analysis. It's boring to the average viewer and I'm not going to risk losing viewers.

I also think snapbacks are very annoying. It's just a stupid looking hat. Apologies to anyone who wears one, but it's just dumb fucking looking hat. Why does everyone want to dress like it's 1990 again? You're not going to un-suck today's hip-hop by wearing those fucking things.

The whole player ahead of team thing is also laid out in the headlines and scrolling news bars on TV broadcasts "Alabama* beats Manziel" "Tebow comes back" "Romo comes up short" It's gunning for emotions- I HATE Manziel, I LOVE Tebow, Romo is a good guy that actually makes a team I HATE far more competitive.

*Alabama having no marketable face being a machine designed to win football games and demoralize opposing fans.

I love how the bottom scrolls use nicknames and try to show personality now. Those used to be so SERIOUS BUSINESS. Even the last place for basic, objective facts has become corrupted.

I hope he fails but I actually think he'll be pretty exciting.
