    POSSIBLE SPOILERS!

I read the book last week - I got a copy imported from the US. There's very little football in it - a small amount from his Cornhusker days but little about the Panthers. As you'd expect it's mostly about drugs. He had a $10,000-a-week habit, went into rehab twice and got back on the drugs the day he left, but was successful at the third attempt. It's an enjoyable but dark read, a bit like William S. Burroughs Jnr's book "Speed".

I was trying to figure out when he started taking drugs. Havent read the book but i saw Solartes interview and ive heard some of his interview on Rome. From what i gathered and i could be wrong here but it was after his football finished that he started getting fucked up on drugs and not while he was a Panther (although he was probably on some form of painkillers for football). Wasnt it a neck injury that forced him to retire?

Its weird both seeing and hearing him now. He looks alot differing having lost the weight. As a person who has had to deal with people very close to me with similar problems i can really relate to what he had to say and I like the fact that he doesnt get all prechy about it. Im glad he was able to overcome his deamons and get off those drugs. Its not easy to break a habit like that. I wish nothing but the best for him.

I've not read the book, but I've heard him in interviews. I got the impression that by the end of his career here, he was a full blown addict, but that it started with the abuse of pain meds.

And I know its hard to break. I've long thought pain meds were the NFL's dirty little secret, because you are always hurt and need to do "whatever" you can to get on the field.

Professional wrestling is full of pain killer abuse. The NFL is probably the same way but I would imagine it polices it better.

Just got around to starting this book. So far good but nothing great. He sure didn't like the Panther coaches too well or the NFL in general for that matter. Basically says NFL players whine too much and didn't play for the same reasons he had been used to coming from Nebraska. Said the Charlotte media shit on him from day one for the holdout which wasn't in his hands.

He said the issue with his holdout, according to his agent, was that the Panthers were loaded with expensive veterans and he would get low balled until they figured out which of those veterans would be let go during cutdowns.
