Byron Bell might be the very worst starting offensive tackle in the entire NFL. Gettleman refused to bring in anyone to challenge him for the job.

I'm all for bringing back Bryan Stoltenberg. I think he can block better than Bell and Hangartner in his present condition, even though he's admittedly a tad bit out of shape.

    Hell, Smitty could block better.

Hangartner announced his retirement today, by the way.

I get the feeling that Smitty was probably not as in the dark about his status prior to Gettlemen's comments as he let on. I'll bet he was approached about restructuring well before then.

Sigh, this is exactly why fantasy football geeks need to stfu.

You need to understand from a business and marketing standpoint Cam, not Smith, is the face of the franchise, period. Whether you like that or not is inconsequential.

The Panthers "brand" is now smiling happy Cam, not angry, scowling Smith. It has less to do with money, although it is a factor, than reimaging the team.

Those of us in the corporate world can see this as plain as day. Living at home doing "fantasy journalism" or flipping burgers after your extended stint in the slammmer can make the simple quite incomprehensible.

Notice how Mitchell, who had some thuggish tendencies is now gone with no real effort to keep him despite playing fairly well.

Translation: its not Madden, quit your fucking bitching and let the professionals handle it. If they wanted your opinion theyd be, you know, paying you to tell them. You might also have a life and get laid occasionally.

Just an opinion thats educated, not force fed and youre all free to go fuck yourselves if you dare to disagree.

I don't go "blind faith" with much, but there HAS to be more to this than we see and hear.

The sad truth is that with few seasonal exceptions, we have been an underachieving, wait and see how we screw this up, snakebitten franchise for 19 years. I hate the thought of Smith gone. But when you try to reverse a less than successful culture, it takes time and some tough choices. Again, I don't particularly like it either, but changing course, especially philosophically, carries the inexorable.

I'm still bullish on Gettleman. No GM is perfect.

It is kind of funny that the myth of the competent GM persists despite the sports world being littered with one staggeringly bad decision after another. The reality is that most people running teams are idiots who got their jobs because of who they know, not the slightest bit of knowledge or ability.
