Sure a player messing up isn't due to the money unless it's a contract year. It's amazing how some players produce and don't drop the ball as often in a contract year.

But you can bet money is affected by the bad occurences. Do you think Moose could command his current contract or better based on his performance now? I don't think he would, at least not by the Panthers.

Do you think he would have had more opportunities if he had half the drops he has had this year? Delhomme prior to the last game has throw to Smith more for 2 reasons, he worked with Smith more in camp and preseason, and he has to feel that Smith is more likely going to make the play. Let's hope that we can build on last week with Moose.

QB's always have favorite targets for various reasons.

Jake is a first year starter, Moose a veteran making a lot more money. If the ball hits you in the hands, high or not, it should be caught. Who would not like a perfect ball thrown every time, I sure as hell would love to see it, it just doesnt happen. Now, if that ball was thrown high over the middle I could understand a little more the lack of concentration, however that play occurred on the sideline, a much safer area.

That being said, our marginal receiver made one hell of a play on an underthrown ball in traffic that set up the winning TD.

Moose makes too much money to not play like a #1 reciever that is where it is relevant. We could use that money on someone who does. So yes, money is relevant in my opinion.

Negro boy? What in the hell is wrong with you? That has to be the absolutely most ignorant thing anyone's ever said to me. Have you proved your point yet, or do you want to come back with more ill-fated stupid remarks? Hell, you might as well, you certainly started this out. I told you once if you couldn't say anything about football or act like you could have some sense, just bow out and shut up. No, you gotta say some more stupid shit on top of stupid shit.

UNCD - for one, be great to see it all in one or two posts.
Two, you say here "Jake is a first year starter, Moose a veteran making a lot more money."

You're then talking about the throw and the play. If you agree that money doesn't come into play on that play, how does it then become your argument? The end result is it was a high throw into traffic. It was a poor decision and a poor throw. Jake's fault. Those balls get picked off all the time, that's not anything new to the Panthers or the NFL.
Jake overthrows guys a lot. Most of his picks come from overthrowing from the back foot. Shit happens. I'm not condemning Jake, but he did two terrible things there, and while Moose could've caught that one, it would've been spectacular as most have suggested. One caused it, one reacted to it. I'll go with the cause for the blame if you're looking to hand blame out.

Your marginal receiver had a drop and let one hit him in the numbers that went for an INT. That's Steve's fault, regardless of how much he makes.

No, I don't find that he would have had a lot more opportunities without the drops. More catches, certainly, but does he get a ton more balls from lacking drops? No. Smith's dropped it a lot and fumbled it. Proehl's dropped it a lot, too.

In relation to your insinuation of contract v/s non-contract years, I don't find that an issue as much as distraction. It's a fact that holdouts get injured more and produce less when they're not working hard. Muhsin signed early, since we're on his subject, and worked hard throughout. And had a better year than when he was on his rook contract. Biakabutuka's first year, like most holdouts, he came in out of shape and without practice, and got hurt. Neither situation is related to money and no professional on a quality team will dog it because of money, though Smith came awful close early this year.

Money is relevant when determining whether or not a player stays at the end of the year. Money is NOT relevant as to who's to blame in a situation where a mistake was made. The mistake, the visual evidence, is the fact, not money.
