Lucas has '09 & '10 left. That gives a year to think weigh the options and get a little cap room.

Marshall is almost 6 year younger than Lucas. Lucas will turn 30 in January. Lucas is probably still a little better than Marshall. Marshall might be better if he gets starter reps.

If we can only keep one then Marshall would be the pick for me.

huh. Sorry about that. Guess it was Wahle that signed the five year and Lucas signed six.

OK, that does give us time. Also, our starting secondary, which I'd say has to be our defensive strength right now, is under contract for two full more years. That's kinda neat.

At any rate, Lucas' contract number for 2008 is, of course, a renegotiated rate. He doesn't suddenly jump to a $6 mil base.

Lucas is clearly better than Marshall. Unfortunately, I don't see him back next year. The market at corner is such that I just can't imagine a guy taking a pay cut when he could probably get more money somewhere else.

It's risky letting him go, because you need three good corners to be a good defense.

Because you're a moron. Marshall has struggled this season and he'll be looking for a HUGE contract, possibly more than Gamble got. Lucas is the guy to keep.

Sound like they are both back for the next 2 years unless we cut one of them, which I would not want to see happen. If we can keep three solid corners then do it as long as we can. In two years Lucas will be hitting 32 so maybe we just lock up Marshall at the end of 2 years. Lucas may walk if he is still playing well or resign as a lower paid 3rd corner if he has started to decline.

You're forgetting that we still have to pay Julius, and maybe even Gross (if we're really stupid).

I was concerned that he would get lost in the shuffle given how our other free agents have received more attention.

I think it's a pretty fair deal. Would have gotten a but more on the open market. But he has been our best corner this year.
