Never heard anyone pitch this theory before. FF have definitely made more music, and of a greater variety, but Nevermind was an atomic bomb that changed the entire music landscape. Like Sergeant Pepper, the influence of the band at that particular moment went far beyond the aesthetic value of the album itself.

    Just sayin'.

I'd say the it is quite obvious that the talent in Nirvana was Grohl and not Cobain

Um no. They were both extremely talented.

Grohl just isn't a pathetic self loathing junkie.

Wow...I've said that before myself. Never heard it come from someone ELSE. I remember after Nivrana's second full release (had Heart Shaped Box on it) they had to get another guitarist because Cobain wasn't able to play and sing at the same time.

Nirvana was better when they added Pat Smear to their live show. Cobain was interesting as a guitarist, but Smear was better, and more eclectic.
Foo was better, IMO, with him, but Dave's matured as an artist since he left.
Honestly, though, the two bands were different, and hard to compare. Nirvana meant more, but I can't say it's spawned as much creativity and talent as the other music-changing bands before it.

There's 0 emotional content in the Foofighters' music. Grohl is good at songwriting and marketing, but he's a normal guy, which isn't very interesting. Cobain had true passion and creativity and it showed in the music. He could play 2 out of tune chords on his guitar like he meant and felt it. Grohl can't do the same. Unfortunately, true artists tend to have social and emotional problems that make it tough for them to deal with the real world.
