Bored as hell tonight and wondered down the hall to talk with a few other contractors eho do other stuff. They had one of these DVD Duplicators http://www.octave.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi/act/specs/item/1115657109

I watched them rip a movie in like 8 minutes! I then went on line (ebay) and saw several DVD Duplicators for cheaper than this price. Single ones between $100-200 dollars. Why would you bother decrypting shrinking and burning for anywhere between 25-50 minutes when you can just drop the original and a blank in and ~ 10 minutes later have a copy?
Does anyone have one of these?

    Go try it and see.
It might have something to do with that whole DECRYPTING and SHRINKING/RE-ENCODING topic you mentioned... have you ever just tried to duplicate a DVD that you've already decrypted/shrank? It takes 5 minutes... That's all these machines are doing.

Also, it probably won't compress it from a dual-layered disc to fit on a single layer. 99% chance it will only do EXACT copies.

He copied a copy of mine and it took no time. So your saying that it would not copy an original as quick or at all

What part of "DECRYPTING AND SHRINKING/ENCODING" was unclear? No, it would not copy a normal DVD at all. Your copied DVD is already decrypted and shrunk/re-encoded. Take your DVD home and copy it yourself. My system can copy DVD to DVD in <10 minutes easy, maybe 5.

[Deep Breath] When I decrypt an original it takes me ~25 minutes, then the shrink and burn process does it's thing in around 20-30. So from start to finish we are looking 45 minutes. The dvd duplicator can take a original and copy it in 5-8 minutes, assuming you are taking an original (dual layer) and buring to another Dual layer blank. If you do a decrypted copy (single layer) it'll copy and burn in the same 5-8 minute time period.

If you can rip and original and burn it to a blank in the same time period (5-8 minutes) then you have something on me. My best original to copy time is 35 minutes [/deep breath]

yes a copy. I talked to him again tonight and he said it is based on disc size. Originals are dual layer so if you have a dual layer blank it would work fine.

So, he copied one that you had already decrypted, right?

Take an original movie and see how it does - if it does.
