probably not both - I'd expect they'll take it much like WW/DM. They'll offer a contract next year, and the guy who takes it stays. Then they'll try in vain to keep the other.

It's very far from ideal, but if we kept one, had that player at LT, and had to play Bridges while waiting for a rookie, that's an OK worst-case scenario.

Meanwhile, I do think they'll look to continue the evaluation of the line this year, watch the youth grow under the new circumstances, and replace what we need from amongst the tackles and the young guards with drive-blockers in 08. With the missing talent from last year, and the experience gained from the guys who did play, I do think we'll have a good line. It proved to not give up tons of sacks, so if the run blocking improves, we should be really solid. Hopefully along with that will come less pressure on the QB, since certainly the sack totals weren't indicative of our overall pressure.

what gets me is if we're fine on the O line why fire Maser? Kinda dumb to believe A then blame B for our troubles.

The ideal there would be much like our firing of Henning, that the front office and head coach believed we had what we needed in place and the results weren't there - we're stuck with these guys but we're not stuck with the coach, and so on.

However, there's also ample rumor out there that Maser's heavy-handed, yelling, feuding with Mathis type bullshit wasn't reaching the guys. Add that in with Butler and Nelson type mistakes and you have enough to indict without the talent itself being a huge problem. Compound that with the two key injuries and Wahle's midseason injury and you can fault the coaching without it meaning the talent itself is to blame completely.

One thing the two have in common as well, is feuding with players that got around to the press - Mathis' parallel with Shelton. I'm guessing that Skipper and Fox believe in Shelton, and certainly Hurney for whatever it matters, but Henning didn't, and therefore a problem ensued in 05, followed by one in 06. You don't fire a guy for that, alone, but it spreading to the press is stupid.

Having a new OC does open the door for guys who fell out of favor like Colbert and Shelton. Maybe they will show something this year?
