I am surprised they didn't match that pretty low offer. But the part about him being better than Morgan is lunacy. Draft plays well at times, at his best. He plays very poorly at times too. I'm remembering lots of plays he was out of position, and others where he got run over. Lots of teams have LB problems, yet no one showed him alot of interest. Maybe the Panthers think Seward will be better. I don't know.

The only sensible conclusion I can come up with right now is that Morgan cost too much to cut this year, They're going to draft his replacment and let Dan go next year.

If Dan makes some miraculous recovery, that's just gravy and we'll move the rookie over to Na'il's spot?

That's like a free player he was so cheap.

Man - they must not like the guy at all. There's gotta be something to that, considering how nobody wanted him in all his visits, and how he's on his 5th team in 10 years......

But damn. And what did we pay fucking Diggs?

I would have matched that offer if it were up to me. It is crazy to let him walk when we could have had him back for that kind of money. When Morgan goes down and Seward is our starting MLB for most of the year we will really regret this move.....

that's not much money. It's a little too much up front, I guess, for a backup.

The team's kinda laid a hard line about all this. While they've spent in RFA, and they have lewis, I don't think there are any other million dollar backups.

I like the thought of a long term, young MLB. But to have gotten this taken care of, and go into the draft with one less need, would've been big.

That is just it, Draft was not and probably would not be a back up. He was and probably would have been our starting middle linebacker. To count on a full season from Morgan when he has never done it is not smart.

So the bar is either Super Bowl or fired??? I guess each year 30 teams should purge coaches and GM's. That's just nuts to suggest Super Bowl or your out. These two guys have accomplished more in the last 4 years than most Coach/GM combos in the entire league. I guess we need to go back to the losing days of Dom Capers and Seifert for folks to appreciate what we have now.

So what do we have other that a team that consistently fails to achieve its expectations? 8-8 doesn't get it done these days, especially with Cowher right down the road.

I am a strong Fox supporter, but even he acknowledges that the NFL stands for "not for long."

Not to keep beating a dead horse, but 2 NFC Championship games and 1 Super Bowl in the last 4 years IS getting it done at a high level. Then again we could always fire the ones who have done so well and we can go back to the 7-9 or god forbid the 1-15 days. Just my speculation, but without injury across the offensive line we are at least 10-6 last season and in the playoffs. We get those guys back and we have done what so many have screamed for and replaced Henning. Why is it so hard to believe we are a solid playoff and even Super Bowl contender based on our returning injured players alone?

Yes, I understand that but I'm saying that Marty and John overpaying for some players that are not performing up to par (Kemo, your fave Dan Morgan) and letting halfway decent players walk (Spoon). Yes, I know some of the guys that we let walk aren't worth what they're getting at other teams, but from what I remember, we could've avoided the situation(s) by signing people to new contracts BEFORE the old ones ran out. An example of what I'm saying is we're getting ready to get ourselves in a shit fix with Pep and Smitty. Just go ahead and lock them in before their prices go up. (It's also happening on other teams--the Bears come to mind w/ the Briggs situation.) Ensure that they stay Panthers.

Fans are getting impatient with what has happened the past few years with the team and this year with the lack of activity in the FA market. Maybe things will be better this year with the new OC and the "new" OL coach. People were getting tired of the same plays at 3rd and long and being shut down.
