Yeah, it's rare. I give credit to Whisenhunt for looking at the big picture, though. That defense has underachieved and they probably needed to go in another direction. Plus, Pendergast was a holdover from the Dennis Green staff. This is an opportunity for Whiz to bring in his own guy.

yeah, wasn't able to get his guy the first time. Maybe that guy's not under contract right now.

It is kinda risky at this point in the show, though.

You don't see a team called "the worst playoff team since the AFL-NFL merger" make the Super Bowl that often. Arizona got hot at the right time, and I agree with B&B that it shows a lot of guts for Whis to go through with his plan instead of backing off due to the playoff run.

Word is he will make a run at the Steelers linebackers coach, since he tried to grab him when he was originally hired, but he is still under contract.

yeah, I saw that. It's a matter of letting him go, though.
PFT says it's Bill Davis, who was completely unable to develop any of the tweener prospects we brought in while OLBs coach here in 95-98.

I think they have as talented of a defensive roster as anyone, so I don't think they can do much worse regardless of who they hire. My guess is that Whisenhunt will get someone who is strong on the fundamentals, more than someone who is an X's and O's wizard. The Cardinals have not been a very good tackling defense. They'll probably go to the more traditional 34 rather than the hybrid-type defense they've been playing.

I have not heard any one credible say that. If they did say it then they were wrong. The Cards showed that they are a solid team by what they accomplished in the playoffs. They played the Steelers very tough and come close to beating them. When you have wild cards making it at 8-8 every so often it is stupid to say a 9-7 division winner os tje wprst playoff team since the merger.

Peter King said it in his column for SI, and several NFL analysts also said it on ESPN. I can't particularly disagree with them. During the regular season, Arizona was 3-7 versus teams outside their division. If they had played in any other division it's extremely unlikely that they would have had a winning record.

I said it. How much more credibility do you need?
