If we have flexibility I suggest the following:

    1. Eat the cap hit and let Peppers play next year under his current contract. That gives us more to look at when we decide whether to give him the Freeny money.

    2. Spend some money on the OL. I have mentioned FLozell Adams before but my main point is that if we can upgrade on Gross and or Wharton then do it.

    3. Get a decent wide out to go with Smith. He does not have to be great but he needs to be reliable.

    4. Get a decent free safety. Same as above he does not have to be a pro bowler but he needs to be solid.

    we do have that option.

Granted, if he bounces back, which is more likely than not, you're looking at a $100 million contract.

Don't think we'll upgrade on Gross. There really aren't guys out there better, no matter what we think of his passiveness. You could make a blockbuster move and get better than Gross, and then have another tackle that sucks, or you could have a very good tackle and Gross.

I'd as well we concentrate a little money on G, too.

Solid veterans, yes. Doesn't cost a ton. I'd almost even be willing to take one of the two spots, go get two reasonable players at the position, and make them fight it out.

I'm guessing holding out on re-signing Peppers will cost us in the long run. His price tag is probably only going to go up. I know we aren't in bad shape salalry cap wise, but re-signing him will help out even more. So hopefully we re-sign him and hope he's no Javon Kearse V2.0

didn't kearse have a string of injuries though as well? and there is nothing at all wrong with peppers. nothing. at. all.

and safeties can be found on nearly any street corner.

The idea of overpaying Peppers and getting little production from him scares me a whole lot more than letting him get away and him having success elsewhere. Even if he plays up to the level he did prior to last year it questionable if he deserves a Freeny type deal.

We need to find some street corners in the better part of town for them. The ones we are getting are the skanks.

    I'm down wit dat.

#2 might not even be a necessity, though, judging by what I saw this past week during the Senior Bowl coverage. There are some very enticing OL prospects in this draft, particularly at G.

I think we need more than decent to be beside Smitty. We need decent to be #3.

Not just for offensive prowess, but for depth. We're currently fucked at WR. We have Smitty, Jarrett, and Ryne Robinson. We need a QUALITY starter and a Proehl.

if we go get a pair of receivers, I'm not against that for competition, but essentially you do what you had already done to Jarrett this past year - put 5 receivers on a team that carries 4 in pads.

I prefer a guy who can start and can play the slot in 3rd down, like Wilford. Big enough to play some posession, smart and able to play against nickel and make something happen.
