We really need to restructure Steussie and move him to right tackle. Add 3 years with token bonus money to spread that shit out. It would help a lot to get his cap number down to 2-2.5 mil. That 3.4 shit hurts bad.

Why move him? If he is willing to structure and extend he will likely not take less because he thinks we are moving him to RT.

Hmm, one would then assume you feel Gross is already better than Steussie for the LT spot.

Or rather that Steussie's a still useful lineman who might be better suited to RT where his mistakes wouldn't be a problem.
Whether Gross is good enough for LT? Certainly, he was when he was drafted. Is he good enough to be consistently left on an island v/s Simeon Rice or Dwight Freeney? Harder to say. But I think we could swap them and have a better fit for each position.

I hear you but why mess with the chemistry (assuming we get Jeno and Kevin back) with a line that has just allowed a franchise record low in sacks and a franchise record rushing for Davis? I guess I'm back to the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" school.

Steussie'll need help with Leonard Little. He'll be much more likely to false start in the dome environment this week. Gross'll have to be moved in the future, and I'd rather that be while Steussie's actually here, and when moved, I feel like we'll be less mistake prone and less in need of maximum protection schemes.

Certainly, chemistry isn't something to take terribly lightly, but we're talking about an offseason move. That gives two minicamps, a month of camp, and four preseason games to develop chemistry that involves the same people, just on opposite sides. It's not like one's moving out of town :beatup2:

The money has nothing whatsoever to do with what position he should be playing. Getting blown up by speedy right ends has everything to do with it.

It's not a given that Gross would be better on the left side, but it's definitely worth trying. I don't think chemistry would be an issue, it would still be the same 5 guys...

I see us making a strong effort to sign most of our own and making aggressive bids for FA’s at LB and CB. Julian Peterson with Wilson as the secondary target, and Bailey (price will likely get too high for us to hang) with Vincent as the secondary target as a 1 year Band-Aid plus a first day pick to groom behind him to start along side Manning. With a first day LB, solid 3rd round WR, a G/RT project in the 4th, and hopefully a backup QB in the 5th, that would give us 7 important new additions -

1 FA LB (Peterson or Wilson?)
1 FA CB (Bailey or vincent?)
1 LB (Dansby, Vilma or Thomas?)
1 CB (Webster, Poole or Colclough?)
1 WR (Cotchery, Colbert or B.J. Johnson?)
1 G/T (Wharton, Bishop or Clabo?)
1 QB (Navarre, Schaub or Lorenzon?)
