There's nothing wrong with the current rule. The backline is the 12th defender. If you take away that potential hazard you're going to see ball carriers doing all sorts of silly Air Jordan shit.

If anything, expand the rule to sideline fumbles. The boundaries are supposed to help the defense - which already have enough trouble defending offenses
