I thought the meeting with Assef was more hopeless. He had no chance to do anything against Assef, but it was well within his power to get medical help for Sohrab. I guess the shock of it was difficult to overcome.

I just wanted to shake Amir and scream 'what are you doing?'. It was killing me. Then the child and his hopelessness in the hotel... mercy.

Not the refusal to step in and stop what was happening. I understood that because as you say, he was a kid. I'm referring to the deeds and acts of meaness and hatred committed by Amir against Hassan afterwards. I couldn't understand it.

The betrayal of Hassan? I thought it was horrible that Amir didn't do anything, but he was a kid. It's easy to say you would have done something, but much harder to actually do it.

It's incredibly beautiful and rich with history that's being slowly destroyed by the Taliban. Imagining the absolute futility and hopelessness of being a woman in a Taliban society is beyond my imagination. I would not last one day there.

No comment on the betrayal of the one boy?

The Wilson book might rub me the wrong way? That's intriguing and far more interesting to me than reading something I agree with completely.

I was more amazed at pre-Taliban Afghanistan. I just never paid that much attention to the history and the culture there.

The Clarke book is really a sci-fi book in which the life of Jesus comes up. The Wilson book is a biography of Jesus, which will likely rub you the wrong way. I like well-stated arguments that go against the grain, so it was an interesting read for me.

I can always use more Jesus in my life, so I'll read that one ok?

Tell me what you thought about Kite Runner, were you shocked? I was furious with the betrayal and couldn't understand it. The debt repaid for it was beautiful tho.

'The Light of Other Days' by Arthur C. Clarke is a book I really enjoyed. It actually led me to another book: 'Jesus: A Life' by A.N. Wilson

No a deals a deal. I'll even read one of those sci-fi things you guys are always posting about. Just name it and "For you, a thousand times over" ; )
