I would have sworn a month ago that Stroud would be the pick.

Now, I think Young will be the pick.

Further, from reading tea leaves, which are worthless when I read them, I think Young is in a tier by himself.
Then the other 4 guys. Stroud, Levis, Hooker and Richardson.

Once it has been established that we are taking Young, all of a sudden, Texans are talking about trading down, which makes me think they might just build their team up stronger. If they trade w Indy, then Indy might take Levis anyway and Texans get Stroud plus a couple picks.

Starting Monday, it will be wall to wall rumors.

For me, I will be happy and find all sorts of good reasons for any pick we make

 

I completely agree that Stroud is accurate as fuck and I could see him doing really well as a "system qb" for Reich. I know nothing about Slowick in Houston but I can't imagine why Stroud wouldn't be more appealing to him than the qbs they currently have. He's no statue but Stroud at the next level is seen as a pocket passer. I think our staff sees all kinds of possibilities with Young.

 

Mahomes is looked at as the one QB to try to duplicate these days.

Processing and improvising are two strong suits for Young, so that is what is putting him at top of most boards now.

 

Two months ago it looked like there was no way that we would get Young, and that Levis wasn't the answer. Stories started to appear suggesting Stroud might be available at nine, and also that we might be able to get up to #3 or #5 without giving up too much and take Stroud there. So, everyone in Panther-land started looking at Stroud as the likely best case scenario, and began posting about that accordingly. We heard about his accuracy, his prototype size and how it fit Reich's preferences, and his fundamentals, and were admonished to not scout the helmet, and to focus on the Georgia game when looking at his off-platform capability.

Then we made the trade, and the debate began on whether Stroud was as great as advertised earlier. And the usual suspects of course chimed in--"Of course he is! We didn't spread a bunch of lies and build him up just to get clicks, after all!" But the reality is that he does look great, but there are a lot of question marks. He's taller but every bit as frail as Young. He has amazing WRs and an O-Line that gives him days to throw. The competition wasn't there. Ryan Day's offense removes a lot of decision making requirements.

In the meantime, we're all taking a second look at Young, and have discovered there's a LOT to like about his game. He's pretty much got everything you could ask for in a prospect except size. And of course, it didn't take long for Reich to come out and say that size isn't that important (he was coached on that by Tharan's wife). And once you get past that, there is no real comparison between the two prospects. Young has done more with less and has next-generation processing skills. And we're going to take him.
