I didn't realize how bad the J-E-T-s OL was for Darnold.

The Tannehill comparison is very flawed, primarily for two reasons:

    1) Miami Tannehill was way better than NY Darnold. Tannehill was actually leading the Dolphins to the playoffs in 2016 before he got injured. The notion that he was a failed draft pick isn't 100% right. He looked like a starting NFL quarterback even with two crappy head coaches (one of whom is being blamed for Darnold's lack of success in New York).

    2) Tennessee runs a completely different offense than Carolina. The run sets up the pass, very similar to Cleveland or San Francisco. Most of Tannehill's success in Tennessee feeds off of their zone running game. Carolina has more of an "attack open grass" scheme, where it will probably be a somewhat balanced offense, but the passing game is not heavily predicated on running plays.

I would say that it's a worthwhile trade, but a better wishful thinking/reclamation scenario is Darnold turning into a Brad Johnson or a Flacco.

What I've read is that Rhule was very impressed with Darnold's attitude, he's got the culture first mindset that Rhule looks for. He has great physical tools but has not received really good coaching even going back to USC. Still, there were people comparing him to Andrew Luck when he came out.

He needs to fix his footwork and not take off or make stupid decisions the second the play breaks down. The first should develop over the next couple of seasons. The second is up to him. I have no doubt that Brady will scheme to his strengths better than Gase did, and we definitely have better weapons for him. Those should build confidence.

All in all, I think it's a great gamble. If the coaching staff can unlock his potential, five years from now everyone will be talking about how we fleeced the Jets.

I do like that he can run through a motherfuckers face. Hopefully Brady utilizes this in short yardage/goal line situations.
