Nine game season. Starting in November, each team plays division only games, home and away for six weeks. In the seventh, eighth, and ninth weeks, do head-to-head in conference against the three other divisions based on where you finished in yours. Then do playoff seeding accordingly.

Would that be entertaining? What do you think the final standings would be? FWIW, I don't think the Panthers would win a division game, but I like their chances against the Lions/Bears, Redskins/Giants, and Cardinals.

Sure. I would love any football at all. .. I put my idea for an abbreviated season in the wrong thread. The context was to start sooner and finish before the actual flu season normally kicks in. This sucks because I was really expecting the panthers to do well with the 2020 schedule. I honest felt like they could start 4-2 and possibly have their first “positive” 7-9 year.
Maybe not having a season would end up being an advantage to Carolina. .. more time for the new staff to brainstorm and develop.
one thing is for sure . .. two rivals (maybe atl too) will be hurt by it.

There could no football on any level and I wouldn't care. I got as much as I care to do without sports involvement.
I enjoyed watching it when it was on, but it's not the same world anymore. There is no safe way they can play the game, let alone getting folks to spend their unemployment money on going to the games for that wonderful live crowd experience. lol
The best part will be that there should be plenty of parking available for those that want to chance it.

The state of Iowa has floated a few different scenarios for HS. The one I see happening is to shorten the season from 9 to 5 games and play locally. Also play every other week over every week.
They also talked about moving the season to the spring...dont like that!

That said, I like the 9 game scenario. Gives a good sample with the division games and playing the similar divisional competitors allows for playoff seeding.

The shitty thing is that football becomes part of our backbone. .. and you can’t just amputate that. Once you’re infused with something it’s always a part of who you are. Likewise, I have a good friend whose wife was a part of his life when they were little kids and they will never be separated. .. sometimes despite logic itself. Some shit is just a “for better or for worse” situation.
I was raised a Cowboys/Landry/Staubach fan. I meet Roger the Dodger when I was 6 years old. I wanted to be him, and played or watched football in some form probably every week of my life right through college years. When something is such a massive part of your life for the first 20+ years of cognition how do you just turn that off? I can’t
    What’s the cure for that?
    For me, no football=depression

It's easier than you think. I also was a big Landry fan, but I was an even bigger fan of Gary Carter. I loved all things baseball, and could quote stats at you all day long. I would sit back and watch a baseball game between two teams I had never heard of, at any level.

Then they cancelled the World Series. I went cold turkey, and haven't been back.

Football will be even easier for me. I can spend my fall Sunday afternoons on my bike instead, and will probably get more out of it than the frustration that Tepper is setting up. And I'm not even sure that I want to support a bunch of athletes that don't like me for superficial reasons, and who don't like the country that I proudly served, and which made them rich. They can go fuck themselves, for all I care.

Colin Kaepernick is a front man for slave labor, BTW. How's that for irony?

I hear ya rake. I can't say I understand because I wasn't raised a fan of any team or any sport.
It's no problem for me to turn it off. Shit, it was never turned on. lol
My dad was a never there, pos alcoholic who only ever taught me one thing. Don't be a pos alcoholic.
I lived on a tobacco farm till I was ten. Our little 19 inch black and white tv only picked up 4 channels even with an outdoor antennae.
Sports were never talked about in my house. I've never played organized sports all through school.

Yep, can relate to the alcoholic pop thing but the was around for football at least and that was our common ground. Funny how football attracts folks from such a wide spectrum. .. from mex dudes who have only played FOOTball to housewives and the home bound. You don’t have to have played at all to appreciate what is absolutely the greatest team sport.
One of the biggest football fans I know has been confined to a wheelchair for 40 yrs (since age 4). He has never even been to a stadium. His world has been anything Packers. .. and he is hard to beat in Madden. )
