I was listening to FNZ this morning and they were talking about our core five players and if CMC was untouchable. Basically, the premise is that we're open for business and will consider any trade offer for all but a very few young players. Speculation was that they were talking about:
    • DJ Moore
    • Tyler Moton
    • Brian Burns
    • Shaq Thompson
    • Christian McCaffrey
Everyone else is open to be traded. Then the debate started on CMC and whether we should trade him now, because the rebuild is going to be a complete one and may take a while. Personally, I think you keep him and the minute his effectiveness as a RB starts to slide you move him to the slot. I would also add Curtis Samuel to the core list because of his potential in a Brady offense, and might consider Donte Jackson too just to see if he can get his head right.

    Any thoughts on all this?

You don't trade McCaffrey unless you're determined to have 10 empty stadiums this fall. I actually expect Brady to use more of a two back system, which would alleviate some of the concern of wearing down CMC during a rebuild. Plus, you'll probably see him playing more WR in this offense anyway.

I would be open to shopping Samuel, and Moton is an interesting wildcard if you believe in Dennis Daley. Part of the reason Panther fans shouldn't dismiss an all in push for Joe Burrow is that we have some tradable young players that align with Cincinnati's needs.

I would be happy with a Burrow trade, even if we have to package up future firsts to make it happen. Dennis Daley should move inside and work next to Little. The last USC Tackle we did that with didn't suck.

    This is my prediction:

The Panthers will keep Cam and draft a QB at 7. It will be our attempt at the Alex Smith-to-Patrick Mahomes track. This way Tepper can save face while also putting his stamp on the future.

that sounds like the team will be paying top 5 rb money for a 3rd WR....

Who are the guys that you feel fits Cincinnati’s needs that are tradable assets?

I actually like that theory. Who is the quarterback you have in mind at seven?

It's the best way to extend his career, and its been done before. Wes Welker had a deal in his last year with the Patriots that was right there at top-5 RB money. CMC is way better, and every bit the receiver that Welker was. Bottom line is you're paying a weapon, not a position.

That would mean either Herbert or Love (who you would trade down for, I hope). Neither one fills me with excitement. Herbert is scary as a prospect and Love is Kaepernick 2.0--this time without the Social Justice! It's possible that Brady can do for Herbert what he did for Burrow, but that's a 3-4 years of sucking risk if he can't.

I never really thought otherwise. It honestly makes sense for both parties if he does, because he can play out the last year of his contract and prove that he's worth the next big deal. Any trade value he has is dependent on his full recovery anyway, which has to be demonstrated or you end up with a 3rd day conditional pick in return for a former MVP who's just 30.
