No one really knows what's going to happen in week one anyway.

It's unpredictable relative to every other week, but you can still extrapolate a lot from offseason activity and preseason performance. I'm not sure why anyone thought it was a good idea to pick Chicago last night, for instance.

I thought John Fox was still their coach.

I need to hire an analytics person, so that someone can explain to me why Mitch Trubisky should be throwing the ball 45 times in a game Chicago lost by seven points.

Analytics are great and all, but if you can’t play guys in the preseason, and you can’t hit at camp for the one short session per day, no amt of analytics in the world can turn unprepared football players into scoring machines.

Ernie Adams does “analytics”. He’s been doing them since his days with the giants before any of these PFF nerds were born. But Ernie Adams doesn’t look like the Prototypical hot young analyst. No, he looks like an old man that would be sitting at the McDonald’s playground by himself.

Here’s some fucking analytics. The Bears were 21st in the league last year in yards per pass. They ranked sixth in the league in rushing att. The team ran for over 1920 yards. Almost 1/2 of that came courtesy of Jordan Howard. They felt like they shouldn’t keep him. Meanwhile, let’s run 29 all over the field. Let’s not use Montgomery after seeing all preseason you would. Let’s line Patterson up in single back and run a dive right into a swarming group of defenders. I mean, that’s the kind of player run when I get bored during a madden franchise. Just sort of a “aw fuck it let’s see what happens” call.

Let’s do some analytics here. I’ll simplify it for you. Matt Nagy - running game = 6-10.

I’m done. I have a meeting to go to. It’s important. We have some more features coming up tonight previewing the Rams game. If you want some really really really strong analysis, I’m talking about a deep dive look into how and why car will beat the Rams, go follow David Newton.

That guy really breaks it down. He certainly doesn’t arbitrarily pick up final score, while citing generic high-level information. That’s a good thing he doesn’t do that. I’m sure ESPN wouldn’t employ him if he did.

Like I said, I’m going to a meeting. Time to monetize this bitch.

Did the Lions tie the Cards?

How does the pickem score that? Nobody gets a point for that, I'd say.

Anybody who predicts a tie should get 3 points if correct.
