This sort of got lost in the sauce this week, but the Panthers became the first ever NFC team to go 14-0.

If Beckham sees this he'll get scared and punch you. Because when you're scared of someone it makes sense to go out of your way to antagonize them.

I don't think anybody who is unbiased would think the Panthers are, or would be, the 'greatest' or 'best' team in NFL history if they do indeed go 19-0.

Just like I never thought the 72 dolphins were at the time either. Although they had a very historic year.

Same with the pats' 18-1 season, even had they gone 19-0. I would admit had they done that, they could be considered 'one of the best' teams in NFL history.

As an aside, I don't know why anybody gives a shit what Joe T says, though I could see why the WashPost would love him.

But his opinion in that article was pretty spot on, imo.

The 85 bears are/were perhaps one of the best, if not the best teams ever. And anybody old enough to watch seriously the games they played that year most likely would say the same thing.

An not just people parroting opinions held by those said folks.

Btw, anybody who was regularly, daily, hourly bombarded on MTV by the Superbowl Shuffle and was getting pretty sick of it (like myself and most folks I knew at the time), still gave the credit for the extra swagger displayed in that vid, and pretty much knew the SB was a lock for them that year. Though many would have loved to see them lose if only because of that vid. And JM's assishness.

I have to agree with '85 Bears as best ever.

The Panthers would be the worst 19-0 team of all time.

The more I think about it, would The Fridge and the '85 Bears linebackers really be able to handle 6'5" 250 lbs, 4.5 40 yard dash Cam Newton? Would Jim McMahon really be able to outsmart and/or out-physical Kuechly and Davis? Probably not.

It is like comparing Royce Gracie from 1994 fighting against a champion MMA fighter from today. Not only do they outpace them physically, they are playing a different game.

Golf is the only sport where it seems reasonable to compare eras. It would be very interesting to see an 18 hole exhibition between Jordan Spieth and an in-prime Jack Nicklaus. I don't think you can honestly expect the 72 Dolphins to stay within 50 points of the shittiest team in the league today, let alone the best.

Yes, I think you are probably correct. That has huge implications.

What is "good?" The answer might always be..."It Depends?"
