It's as if Ted Striker is a moron who knows less than shit about football and doesn't follow the Panthers closely enough to realize that Smith's targets percentage already fell from 28.2% to 23.0% or that Greg Olsen had as many targets as Steve this season. Oh wait...

Correct, especially for the reasons you stated about knowing Steve and how he would naturally react. It's an unnecessary headache.

Its as if Collin is a moron and doesnt take into account that Olsen and another starting cailbre WR (or dare to dream 2) together would further diminish Smiths role...what percentage would that bring it down to fucktard?

I also follow the Panthers well enough to see that some of the targets he gets now are balls he used to catch(see Delhomme career) that he can no longer make an incredible play on. Smith has always been a crutch for his QBs. How many times have other WRs been open when the ball was thrown to 89?

Also, are you debating the other needs we have or just trolling part of the discussion?

Also, again, my favorite question to you...Ever been paid for your "knowlege"; ever been in print, any by lines with your name on them at any legit media source? Cmon answer...yeah, we all know...none. Now kindly shut the fuck up while grown folks are talking

I felt that way when they extended him. My post was reacting to the Smith article, my feeling already, the team needs and Gross retiring.

LaFell had 88 targets this season while Ginn had 68. Let's say that the Panthers signed Eric Decker to start opposite Smith, so how would that theoretically affect Smith's targets? If you bothered to study target distribution on other teams, the answer you'd get is not much at all. Decker would take LaFell's percentage and then a lot of the third WR's targets as well. At absolute most, Steve would fall to around LaFell's 18.6%, which would be less of a drop than Smith already went through this past season, and I really doubt he would decline that much in 2014.

Regardless, the part where you've embarrassed yourself is claiming to be a Panthers fan and making pronouncements about what Steve would do when you didn't even have a clue that his share of the passing game had already declined substantially. You didn't know that both because you're clueless about football in general, but more importantly, because Smith didn't make a stink about it.

Steve is getting older and therefore naturally less explosive, but his catch percentage of 58.3% in 2013 was actually an improvement over his 52.9% in 2012 and only slightly down from his 61.2% in 2011. More important to this particular argument, it's also better than the 50.0% of Jake's last season in Carolina and on par with the 58% to 60.5% where he was during Jake's prime. It's fine to say that the Panthers need to plan for the inevitable future without Steve, but it's moronic to say that he needs to be dumped now or that he's already washed up. Steve's numbers declined in 2013 because Shula is such an awful coordinator that he had to wait fourteen years to get another opportunity.

 I thought everyone on TBR already knew this. Yes, I have been paid to cover football (fantasy, but still) every single year since 2000. There is a magazine on shelves right now that you can find at most bookstores and some grocery stores with my name inside the cover. I have received press credentials to cover the Panthers before, and could continue to do so if I didn't feel completely out of place. How can you be so obsessed with me and troll me constantly but not remember any of the times I posted that before? Ah, right, because you're a moron.

Yes, fantasy football. Fantasy being the operative word. Stats are for little dorks who cant get laid. Its not credible journalism, period. It just proves you have no life.
You make Gantt look like Chris Mortenson.

So youre saying paying him his roster bonus and salary are a good idea given the holes we need to fill ?

Cam, like it or not, is the face of the franchise. Surrounding him with better overall talent is the key to success. Overpaying one player isnt helping. It would be far different if we had no holes to fill and cap room. Stats dont mask those facts.

Whether Smith would handle things well or not really makes no difference.

Smitty does not deserve to be a 7 million dollar a year WR.

Smitty had several games where he was rarely thrown to and handled it just fine. He's still enough of a threat that defenses always know where he is. Can't argue the money issue, but I hope he's here.
