    $5 million salary
    $100k workout bonus
    $7.1 million cap hit

Looks like $3 million in prior pro-rated bonus monies would accelerate. By my looks, if they cut him with a June 1 designation, $2 would count against 2014 and $3 million would count against 2015. Without the June 1 designation, $5 million would count against 2014.

Fortunately, there is no injury or skill guarantee language on any of his salaries (like it was on Beason's deal).

Fucking depressing. I thought beason and Anderson were off the books. So we will be cutting players and not really seeing any benefit for it for another year or 2. Taking a step back next year

You never know. I expect the team to stay respectable but it would not surprise me at all if Carolina finished last in the division next season.

I've decided it's a waste of time try to keep track of what's going on with the cap. We were supposed to be screwed this year, but then suddenly we weren't. There's always some unanticipated accounting trick or restructuring that magically puts the team $10 million under the cap.

Eat the shit contracts and clean house. I don't want to be average or less than average for 2-3 years

Neither does JR and that's why they'll drag this out.

I know they won't do it but...

If they did cut ALL the shitty contracts and try and field a team with whatever was left of the cap for a year or 2. Then start from scratch to rebuild with Cam & Keek as the only guaranteed holdovers would you go to the games? Watch on tv? Give a shit?

It would probably be even worse than '10. So, no.

That sort of situation makes me wonder about the new CBA, doesn't it have a floor? Does dead money count against the floor? I figure it would, but don't know definitely.

That's what Oakland did last year and were somewhat competative. They are 26 million under the cap going into free agency

You could do it in Carolina and still win 4-7 games, but the Big Cat doesn't know when he's going to kick it so they're going to keep planning for now instead of the future. But that scorched approach that I advocated isn't even really necessary anymore. Godfrey will presumably be cut, so the only killer contracts left after that are CJ and the RBs, and you wouldn't get rid of CJ given how much the defense declined after his injury. I would support eating the cap hit from DW & Stewart to get right after that, especially with Cam's huge deal looming, but I don't think they will.
