It's not enough to just look at the gamebook/play by play to judge 59 in coverage. For example, on the 35 yarder to Colston, we bring a 'slot' blitz with 41, which got picked up by Sproles. On the back end, Mitchell bit on the outside post by Moore which left Colston all alone behind BOTH Kuechly and Davis for a big gainer. My guess is that Brees was reading Mitchell once he knew that Captain was picked up. Brees also gives a small pump fake on the play and Mitchell bit on that fake. Even if Luke had Colston man to man (which I don't think is the case, it looks like both LBs were playing zone underneath), you and I both know that is a mismatch and the Saints will take that matchup all day long.

To your point, he did have a rough stretch of plays on the TD drive. But that doesn't mean he had a 'bad' game.

I remember that play and was wondering where the dbs were. I'm getting all 22 next year.

Agreed, as there were also times where Kuechly's assignment got the ball and was tackled by someone else, but I was addressing the notion that he had a good game because he had so many tackles.

Instead of quibbling over semantics, my point was simply that after watching the game a second time I was surprised to see that Kuechly really didn't play that well. I'm fine if you don't consider it "bad," but I don't think it was "good" either.

I think Luke is an above average player, and glad he's here. I think he's a student of the game and will grow with time. But do I think he's at the level of all his hype? Not really. Certainly not a bad player, but not the greatest LB ever - at least not yet.

Basically, I'm saying this wasn't one of Kuechly's better games. He's had much better ones than this past Sunday.

Whether it was one of his "better" games or not, it was still an amazing game.

Like I already said, and I'm pretty sure he admitted to when he said he was tired when they were bringing in fresh guys...he had a stretch where he suffered...as any player does....but thank you for correcting yourself on that ridiculous statement that he had a bad game.

    He really didn't.

He was on Jimmy Graham often and shut the pass down - and he was tested early and often, succeeding mostly.

It should be noted that when Graham made his long play, Florence misplayed the ball and allowed him to get a long gain.

On the touchdown, it was Mikell in coverage, and not Kuechly - he was never Kuechly's assignment.

That was the drive he missed two tackles. It's a joy to do really, so if you have NFL Rewind please watch him on every snap. It's simply amazing what he did.

    It was a stellar game.

We know Kuech is overrated in coverage, most of us fans do. Sure, he's hyped beyond words. But ... to say he had a bad game...

The guy had a fantastic game....not good. Fantastic. FANTASTIC.

We're watching a great develop before our eyes. Let's appreciate once in a while, eh?

I've noticed that CJ clearly isn't himself yet. Need that to change. Alexander literally is not doing shit despite receiving a whole lot of playing time. Addison is the only other DE getting anywhere close to the QB.

I will say that we're getting a fuckton of sacks from DBs. I wouldn't have expected that before the year

What you said earlier in the thread is that he had a bad game. That is just not the case. I re-watched the game tonight and if that is the definition of a bad game, then I hope he has a bad game every week.
