    Per Jay Glazer.

@JayGlazer: Panthers source says they are working a trade that would send pro bowl LB Jon Beason to the Giants, who sorely need defensive help

If we can get something out of a player we intend to cut anyways good. If the Giants think he'll help their defense Hurney might've secretly been hired on.

Alright capologist, I know he redid his contract but isn't when a player traded doesn't all of his bonus money hit then? Are we carrying dead money now and virtually creating cap room later on?

I see something saying it's done pending a physical.

I don't think so. His total cap hit for 2013 WAS $6,187,500. It was made up of several items, including a $1 million base salary, a $4 million bonus pro-ration, and roster and workout bonuses. We'll keep at least $5.4 million on the books for this year.

In 2014, we would keep the remaining $4,000,000 bonus dollars on the books. We would technically clear his $6,500,000 salary from the cap, but that was going to happen anyway as the contract was voidable.

From my estimation (I am estimating because there are some NLTBE bonuses in there that count in strange ways), we'll save about $750k on the cap this year.

When a player is traded, all of his remaining bonus money does accelerate to the current year. There is no carryover after the season in which the player is traded.

Cool so after this year it's a clean slate. I was hoping some of the cap space they had created in August was to maybe sign Hardy or a player of need. Guess that will have to wait
