Preseason game #4 observations

Yeah, seriously.


- I looked long and hard at the reserve O-Line, to see if we might have found anybody worth a damn. Chris Scott is interesting. He has a reputation as a lazy fatass, but he's one of the only guys I've seen moving the LOS. I actually think he might be better than Silatolu. And should I be encouraged or discouraged that I didn't notice a drop-off at offensive tackle?


- Really like Armond Smith. He's good in pass protection, doesn't lose yards as a runner, and he's a gamer on special teams. Poole is solid too, but Smith appears to have more overall value. I'd feel comfortable with him backing up DeAngelo. It sounds cliche to compare him to Nick Goings, but that's what he reminds me of.


- If we're serious about this conventional offense shit, we probably should have found a lead blocker. I'm still hoping Shula will revert back to more spread stuff for the regular season.


- Has Armanti caught a pass since the first game? Why do we need to keep hearing about him? Smith, LaFell, Ginn, Hixon and Gettis will do just fine. Don't make a feel good bullshit decision here.


- I like Roh, and not just because he's a white defensive end. He's got some ability we could work with. I expect Addison to get the final spot because he plays special teams, but he's been outplayed at DE. I still hate that we gave up on What's His Face.


- I'm seeing good and bad from Josh Norman, and not much in between. I don't think he should start, but I guess you could say that about all of our corners.


- D.J. Moore was horrid. That's disappointing. I was kind of happy when we signed him.


- Jimmy Clausen is still a pathetic cuckold. God damn it. Go away. Keep two QBs and add someone to practice squad.


- Lose the band, please. This isn't college.


- Colin Cole sucks. Fua outplayed him tonight.


- Steeler fans got the fuck out of dodge in a hurry. They can't be bandwagon fans, can they? They don't quit when things get hard. No. I'm sure they're just in preseason mode.

 

Nakamura constantly taking bad angles on running and passing plays. I would not give a rats ass to see him play. He whiffs on tackles because of his angles and on the deflected pass he barely got there and if he had missed then it would have been a Steeler td,
because the reciever had gotten behind him.

 

The OL just scares the living hell out of me. It would shock me if we don't truly look elsewhere.

At this point, because none of our corners are great, I'm ok with Norman starting. At least we can get some INTs out of it.

For me, Thomas should start opposite of him.

Man, Colin Cole DID stink last night, which is really disappointing. Maybe he needs more time, I don't know. But I'm ready to let Fua gtfo of town.

Poole for me is a much, much better back than SMith, but Smith offers more value, so that's a tough one. I guess I'd keep Smith for what he gives us elsewhere. That, and I like that he kicked a player when he was down.

Jimmy Clausen...man...just think, we almost gave up a first overall for him.

BUt he's just not good at all. Kid's probably a nice guy, and got a good heart and wants to win, and wish he could've been a starter. I mean, didn't he arrive to Notre Dame in a goddamn limo?

BUt he's nowhere near good enough to even be a third. Time to let him go.

 

I officially am rooting for Armond Smith over Poole now because while Poole said "if I'm not here, there are brighter days", Smith said, "I'm gonna use the term, keep pounding, because that's the Panther way."

Yes. FOr that reason alone.

 

Seeing a Qb throw with touch and accuracy, to WRs who caught the ball, was really cool. Even if that was short lived.

All I got.

 

The sad thing is that he is probably our best CB.

Well, let's see how Newton responds in the regular season games.

Anderson has been pretty awful this preseason, though he did have a nice series or two last night.

FFS, if someone would just....work with Cam Newton to correct the SMALL FUNDAMENTALS....we'd really have something amazing...
