Still worried about losing Chud, but hopeful that Shula will show a little more commitment towards the running game.

Do ya'll remember that Eddie Murphy joke about the saltine crackers.

If you hadnt had a cracker for years and someone gives you regular saltine cracker it tastes like the best damn cracker you've ever tasted.

We had Foxy for so long, ignoring the TE position, running draws on third down and listening to punting isnt a bad play that when we hired an OC that was willing to once again embrace the TE position, throw it on third and long that we thought we had the most genius OC in the league. When all we really had was a regular OC that new the value of using a TE and played to the strengths of the QB, deep passes.

One thing to keep in mind is that it was the running game that made our Offensive ranking look so good.

In 2011 our running attack was ranked 3rd in yards and 1st in Tds
In 2012 our running attack was ranked 9th in yards and 3rd in Tds

In 2011 our passing attack was ranked 13th in yards and 13th in Td's
In 2012 our passing attack was ranked 16th in yards and 24th in Td's

For for all the praise Chud gets for reinventing the passing game here in Carolina, it was the running game that put us over the top and led to us winning games. We need to get back to what we do best, run the ball and lets play action off it since thats where Cam completion percentage appears to look its best.

Will Cam not be able to run next year?

Chud knows his x/o stuff but he was not smart enough to keep from outsmarting himself. I still get pissed thinking about last year.

You do realize that the read-option was a huge reason for that rushing success, right?

    You're changing the subject.

    1) Didn't realise the read option wasnt a running play.
    2) Didn't realise you couldn't play action off a read option play.
    3) Didn't realise Chud invented the read option.
    4) Didn't realise Cam never ran it at Auburn.

The read option does work. It can create some very explosive plays for Cam when it works to perfection. SF and Wash have proven it works too.

But I do question whether it worked best for our RB's last year. Whether that was due to the Oline, Cam holding it too long, Deangelo struggling early, using it out of shotgun or a combination of some of these im not sure.

Alfred Morris was great in it too so it can be great for RB's. It worked great for our RB's against NO and WASH. TB and SEA, not so much.

Keep in mind Deangelo only had like 300 rushing yards prior to December.

Maybe its more about blocking and execution. 34 was scoring all kinds of ways in DEC, screens, read option, I formation and the OAK TD that was called back was a pitch.

Not at all. Your constant desire to bash Chudzinski is completely misguided since he not only energized the passing attack but the rushing game as well. You also don't seem to realize that Carolina actually ran more often in 2012 than 2011 (along with passing less). So there's no "getting back to" running the ball. Chud was already doing that with regularity.

My point was to highlight that it was the success of the running game that made our rankings look so great. Which I find kinda ironic since Chud is perceived as a passing guru.

I appreciate what Chud brought to the passing game, not bashing him at all here. I dont see why I have to be bashing him just because I don't believe we are doomed he has left us and that we can continue to have success next year. There is no reason to believe our running game cant be ranked amung the best once again. If we do that I believe we can compete.

We may have had more rushing attempts last year but our running game was clearly superior in 2011 averaging almost 1 yard per carry more.

We do need to get back to those results.

Clearly you can see 34 and 28 didnt have their best years last year? It took 34 till Dec to make a significant impact and 28 had his worst year ever here.
