to whom? who decides 'offensive'? what if many of us 'redskins' feel its actually a cool thing and not offensive at all?

if some folks feel something is offensive, does that make it so, even if others do not? should there be a poll of redskins to see what the majority thinks? and if they do, does that mean a majority can run over the minority, or visa-versa?

Plenty of older folks insist that the n-word isn't offensive because it doesn't refer to all black people, just the ones with certain negative behaviors. Obviously no NFL team could be called the "Blackskins." Not only is it the very definition of racist since it categorizes an entire group of people based on an exaggerated physical characteristic, but it had a history of being used in a derogatory manner. Simply because you're used to hearing it doesn't suddenly make it ok.

Please try to use your brain for two seconds. Would it be acceptable to call a football team the San Francisco Slant-Eyes? The Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves are both perfectly fine. Redskins isn't.

 

it was fine for generations, really, so 'suddenly ok' doesn't work. In fact it's more recently that is has become a more offensive in many's eyes. I've been called a redskin and an injun, both endeering and offensively, ether doesn't bother me none. does 'pail face' bother you? does 'whitey' bother you? does 'ass hole' bother you? 'redskin' is not really all that derogatory, depends upon use. hell, blackskin folks are proud of their skin color, even call each other the n-word in a non-derogatory manner. funny even, if a white man is proud of his skin color, that seems offensive, even to white folks.

The washington 'redskin' football team doesn't use the term in a depicted derogatory manner. they use it proudly. no different than the braves, chiefs, etc. in fact, 'chief' has been used as a derogatory term towards injuns by whitey for generations as well. I've been called 'chief' like that, even here, bigfukin deal.

I don't know, thuran probably wouldn't mind. though the Seattle Slant Eyes would be more applicable.

 

It was never fine. This isn't a Native American-Indian situation where it's not the actual people who push the issue. All the Indians I've ever bothered to ask about it hate the idea of the team being named "Redskins" and find that term to be offensive. But for generations, nobody gave a shit what they thought, and obviously there are many like you who still don't.

The most damning flaw you and so many others have is not ignorance but lack of honesty. You know that you're wrong, you simply refuse to admit it. What do you guys think of his game against Alabama, had like 14 tackles against a top notch unit.

 

I stopped watching after a couple of minutes but that Youtube video made him look less like a first rounder rather than more.

 

I've always thought that Washington Warriors would be a better name than Redskins. At the very least, they should get rid of their McDonald's color scheme.
