Has anyone been following the NBAs ruling/fining of the San Antonio Spurs because Coach Popovich rested 4 of his best players rather than have them play the 4th game in 5 days? What's the difference between that and during preseason NFL teams do essentially that and still expect full ticket prices. David Stern preached the fans come to see the stars and the integrity of the game while Goodell has never to my mind addressed this similar issue.

I guess when you're the number one sport you get away with dicking your fans out of seeing the stars

Think you just answered your own question. Regular season is different you need squad rotation to make it through long grinding seasons (see NBA, MLB, or soccer teams playing the regular season, champions league, and league cup games with national team qualifiers mixed in) preseason is a big fuck around where you evaluate younger players and try to get your vets some time but avoid injury. Also I don't recall Goodell ever preaching anything about the preseason being a chance to see the stars, most of that come from TV networks praying that your average joe will miraculously give a shit to watch preseason.

The NBA is just pissed that Pop rested his guys before a big TV game.

Yeah. The Spurs almost won anyway. Would have been funny if the Heat would have lost

I think a better argument would be made on NFL teams that rest guys in weeks 15-17 when playoff seeding won't matter. I think people that go to preseason games should have an idea what they're getting into, and coaches will even say in the media how much units/QBs will generally play.

I think it's up to the coach's discretion to do what he thinks is best. If he'd done some Belichickian injury report it might not have been that big a deal.

Popovich did this before by listing the reason a player would play as "DNP:Old"

    Yeah.

Also, I think the Spurs could have gotten away with it had those players traveled but not played. Not even taking to the Miami was slapping Stern in the face, which is probably what Pop intended to complain about their ridiculously unfair schedule.

Agreed on the traveled part, as for the schedule several teams if not all have stretches like that.
Just wish the preseason game ticket prices were cheaper or optional for season ticket holders

Irony is the fact that we draft a qb that will revolutionize the position and looks like we catch a break...and then his better version rg3 comes out the next year....Fuck my life...
