San Fran's core has been there since Singletary (many of them since Nolan) They've added two very good offseasons on top of that, though.

I'm pretty convinced we'd be winning more games with a better head coach.

Ultimately I'm not expecting to become a Super Bowl contender overnight. I'm just hoping a new GM will exercise better habits. I want our team to have a concrete plan.

Carlos Rogers isn't an elite corner. He signed for peanuts (and the Panthers ignored him) because he was viewed as flawed. I liked him, but he's now considered to be better than he really is because of how the rest of their defense makes him look. You make a good point about Aldon Smith, but that's the only impact player they didn't already have under Singletary,

Honestly, how many players does Carolina have that you believe can be impact players 2-3 years from now? Newton. Stewart. Kuechly. That's pretty much it, right? Maybe Kalil, but I don't view him as a dominating center. Meanwhile the Panthers have more committed to the 2013 and 2014 caps than any team in the league.

That 2010 draft was pretty important for them too.

Two OL guys in round 1 and Bowman in 3 (another guy we coulda shoulda had)

There was Culliver also with Aldon Smith.

They are also incredibly lucky to see Gore more healthy than he ever was in College.

But it just highlights the frustation with our draft pics.

Coulda had McCarthy and Bowman as our backers and saved alot of coin with better drafting.

I realise that may sound like alot of hindsight but alot of the talent we see excelling on Sundays we have mentioned and discussed on these boards.
These are players average joes like you and me watch on Saturdays.

But for some reason we trade up for DII guys or select injured guys or guys that dont even look like they're built for the NFL. We seem to be constantly reaching for guys the past few years. Were still feeling the ripples today of that Otah trade and not just because we cut him. Its gonna hurt even more in the 2013 draft watching our high 3rd rounder go to someone else.

We very likely still coulda had the exact same guys we selected without trading up at all due to our constant reaching.

Adding insult to injury, Iupati at #17 was the pick we gave up for Everette Brown.

I remember reading an article praising the 49ers for their drafts, especially their medical evaluations. They took chances on guys like Crabtree who had potentially serious injuries in college, who have all turned out to be solid pros. The Panthers seem to have the exact opposite skill as the 49ers.

The team needs to be blown up. As it looks now, the same group of players has quit on a second coach in three years. You can't cure cancer without cutting it out and treating it afterwards.
