Game management, time management, situational football, etc. Those things define a head coach. Those things are why Ron Rivera and Jason Garrett are terrible head coaches.

As I stated in the game thread, with Norman & Munnerlyn as your starting corners you don't even have the ability to play anything else. One is a rookie who absolutely shouldn't be playing more than 10-20 snaps and the other is a shrimp who shouldn't be more than a scrappy nickel back. People keep referring to a "prevent defense" as if they're blind and didn't notice that Carolina used that coverage the entire game.

And my suggestion is to tear everything down, burn 2013 as a lost year to get the salary cap back in order, hopefully draft Lotulelei this season, and then address DE/CB/OL in the draft or free agency for 2014.

"Prevent" is an exaggeration, but in that situation you have to challenge the receivers.

I wish they could, but have you seen them play one snap of press coverage all season?

I don't know. Cutler hadn't beat them the whole game really, using the same coverage. He just turned it on at the right time (take notes Cam). As shitty as the talent is in the secondary, I don't know that they made the wrong call. Chicago has vastly better talent than Carolina, I think people are losing sight of this.

I know we suck at corner. And if Gould misses, we're probably not dwelling about it. Oh well.

"When John Fox rolls into Charlotte in two weeks and drops 50 on JJR's team for spite, that might be the last straw for Rivera. "

Rivera goes too. Fuck them both.

They're both knuckleheads at their current positions. Not sure I believe that about Rivera though - think he's taking a bullet for McDermott, but who cares. They're both gone, and it's a foregone conclusion.

Steve Young's suggestion on ESPN following his review of the game: "You'd think Carolina would try a cover slant" (said while laughing in disbelief). Though not sure why he said that as the segment was focused on Cutler and the Bear's offense.
