DeCastro gives us flexibility on the OL.

We can plug him in at RG if Otah is healthy.

We can plug him in at LG and cut Wharton and save a ton of cap space.

If Otah a total bust can slide Wharton to LT, and Gross to RT.

A month ago I'd have gotten hives thinking about a G at 9. Now after I see what will likely be there when we pick, I'm coming around to it.

While its not a sexy pick, an elite guard can do things like block screens down the field, open holes for our backs(bad guard play can make you run too much off tackle thus more predictable and easier to defend), block on Cams designed runs and not allow quick pressure up the middle. Yes, we need corner and DT help( youre pissing in the wind if you think we're going DT in the first); but given the price tag its a steal to pick DeCastro for about half what top guards are getting in FA. Real talent at G is far more rare than OT or even DT.

Sometimes you have to get a workhorse to allow your playmakers to make plays. You've got two elite RB, a running QB you drafted #1, and alot more screens called than in the past. Best player at his position coming out of college.

Yeah, that's just not even close to being true. It's the opposite of true, in fact, which is why elite guards are paid less than elite OTs & DTs.

So the list of elite G is longer than DT or OT?
    Prove it.

My point is most great OL talent in the HS, college ranks is steered toward T, on D better talent plays end making a really good G harder to find.

You have no point, you just talked out of your ass and said something dumb. Most tackles can be moved inside to guard if teams wanted to play them there, meanwhile the opposite is most certainly not true.

I would rather draft a guard who turns out to be very good and maybe eventually elite than I had to reach for a DE or DT who is a bust. Guard may not be an impact position but you have to look at risk vs reward as well.

I agree with thelt, players that are good are better than ones that bust.

I know that sounds overly simplistic but I have a deeper meaning behind it. If you take the "safe" player every time even if his upside is not as high as another player ranked near him on the draft board you probably have better results over the long term. Most people who follow the draft closely and are familiar with college ball can tell who has high bust potential and who is almost a "can't miss".

Every year some player shoots up the draft board based on a workout or combine number and goes way too high. A lot of times that player ends up being a complete bust.

No, what i said was absolutely true. Being the top douche at TBR doesnt mean you are any kind of authority on football( see comeback route, under tackle, Cam sucks/no i really said he doesnt suck or any other banal self serving tripe you pollute the board with at times). I really dont care to have a circular arguement with you so briefly rant and then stfu.
