Brockers, the 6-foot-5 ½, 305-pound defensive tackle, reminds me a lot of current Oakland Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour when he came out of the University of Georgia.

The former SuperPrep All-American was recruited to LSU as a defensive end, and he could project to a defensive end in a 3-4 alignment or as a 4-3 defensive tackle in the NFL.

Not only does Brockers rank as the top defensive tackle in the draft class of 2012, but he is the top overall defensive lineman, recording 54 tackles, 10 tackles for losses, two quarterback sacks, four quarterback pressures and a blocked a field goal in the BCS national championship game against Alabama.

The NFL scouts will love Brockers' size, potential, his quickness and lateral movement skills and his ability to get pressure from the interior.

I have Brockers ranked as the seventh best overall prospect in the 2012 draft class behind Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil, Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, Claiborne and Richardson.

seeing more and more mocks with him as our pick. makes a lot of sense. Coples seems to be sliding a lot (maybe not even top 25?).

Collapse that pocket, smash Drew Brees. I like it.

I'm skeptical.....but then I'm still comparing DT's to Kris Jenkins when he was here and healthy so probably not completely fair.

getting him to our pick on bleacher report has apparently made a lot of people aware of him.
I watched him get whipped in the championship game a lot, but everyone was. Honestly, he reminds me a bit if Sean Gilbert. He'll penetrate, but you can redirect him enough that it won't matter much. Now, that's him being very rough around the edges. Athletically, he's a fantastic prospect, he's more the type you want to draft in the top 10 than Coples or Ingram, both of which are athletic but not eye popping.

Here's what I said in the other thread about him:
Now, the height could be problematic, especially with his inconsistencies, but he does keep low a lot. Not that it isn't a problem, but he's still so green it's hard to actually say it is.

That just stuck out to me, only because it's part of what was said about Newton last year.

I don't think they're looking DT, and I definitely wouldn't want him at 8/9 anyway.

WesBunting Wesley Bunting Think #LSU DT Michael Brockers has a lot of upside inside, but real value could be as a play making 5-tech...more upside than JJ Watt IMO

ok i'm lazy. what is a "play making 5-tech?"

A guy who plays end in a 34, mostly. A DE in a 43 sometimes, but basically a dude who lines up outside a T, or stands up at the LOS. The "technique" is just where the guy lines up, but obviously it defines the type of player it is. SUch as, a 0 would be a Nose, and a 3 could be Collin's infamous under guy...(a gap penetrator, the lighter tackle) ...or... ("I know what an under is, but no one else knows what an under is. Do you know what an under is? You don't, but I do!")

A play making 5 tech is a playmaker at that position. Could be a DT end in a 34, a DE in a 43, a rush backer with his hands down, an end standing.....

I suck at explaining this shit. There are others here a hell of a lot more eloquent than I am at this. Please do a better job.

Just a fancy way of describing a one-gap end in the Wade Phillips type 3-4. Pittsburgh 3-4 ends are two-gap players who are expected to occupy the OTs and control both the gaps inside and outside the tackle. One-gap 3-4 ends aren't trying to hold ground, but rather penetrate and disrupt the offense behind the line of scrimmage. That puts additional burden on the ILBs & OLBs. Since Brockers is a DE/DT tweener, that description does make sense. For that matter, you could say the same about Coples.
