So we'll be looking at a franchise tag slapped on him, and a high asking price.

    Pretty sure he'll get franchised.

so he'd cost more than we can afford, on two different fronts. Is he, plus very little else, enough to fix our defense?

He'd make a huge difference, yeah. Certainly a lot more than anyone we could draft at 8/9. The salary thing wouldn't be such a problem if Hurney hadn't given out a zillion dollars to guys already on the roster, so they would need to get creative to fit him under the cap. It's possible, I just don't see them doing it because they'd rather give Otah a $70 million extension.

Man don't even joke about that.

Agree Williams would be better than anyone we could draft with that pick. And agree he'd help a lot. How much more might we have to pay, past this year's 1st?

getting creative under the cap is my point - you fit that, RFAs, and our draft pick under the cap. Then think about this football team - are we good enough to stop the run without any changes at DT? Without any additional depth at LB? Starting Captain Munnerlyn?

I'd love to address DT, I just don't think they plan on it given the statements they've made. Even if they do, that can be accomplished with the second round pick. A second starting CB and a second starting DE are my wish list for this off-season. Mario Williams is such an elite player that I'd jump at the chance even if it meant not being able to address the other holes. He alone would make the defense dramatically better.
