Newton has drawn criticism for hanging his towel-covered head on the sideline after bad series. In an interview with ESPN the Magazine, Newton referred to himself as a "lion" and talked about the need for his teammates to match his desire to win. Gross said the Panthers respect Newton's competitiveness but were not crazy about his comments to ESPN. "I can't imagine the way it was portrayed was the actual way that he wanted it to come across. I do believe that he thinks he's a winner, and he doesn't like that we've been losing," Gross said. "We've been teasing him about his comments now to let him know we don't necessarily like it, but we're still his teammates. And he's handling that well."

I remember many of you saying it was a non issue, and that I and anyone else who said we were unhappy with the interview were idiots.

    Turns out.....

No, some people just don't like it being said they don't share the same "desire" to win.

Especially when some of these same "losers" went to the Superbowl. I think they were just tired of Cam choking late in games, throwing INTs, and sulking like a bitch. Either way, it looks like they had the talk, and things are on the mend. It's getting turned around, so it's good.

No better way for that to turn out than for the veterans to mock the shit out of him over it. That should head off any problems in the locker room and teach him to not say such stupid shit.

the cool part of the interview is about the lineman teaching cam how a qb needs to be emotionally, and cam not just listening but understanding.

And Smitty basically seemed to share the "losers need to go" opinion. In fact, so do I. Now I don't believe we have many (if any) who are just coming to pick up a paycheck, but if there are any, they need to get the hell out. Yeah, he should keep it in house, but good grief folks, he's by far not the first Panther in his rookie season to say stupid things to the press and he won't be the last. The team will work it out amongst themselves, move on. By the way, we won last week.

again I'd like him to show more leadership than he did there. I don't care if it was an issue. Funny enough, since I like Rivera's pressers enough to go back and watch old ones occasionally, on the 8th, about 4 mins in, he says "to me it's a non-issue". Which is why I posted.

It's funny, because to a point he got affixed a lazy, won't work hard, easy way out tag in this process, when he's done nothing but work hard and care. This is an extension of that. He needs to filter his words, and I can't say I'm thrilled about it, but I'm also not pissy about it. Guy cares. He wants his hard work to pay off.

As for him leaving, he's all but guaranteed four more years, so people need to get a yardstick out and unwad the panties. Five more realistically, as I would have a hard time seeing a team not franchising him for another year hoping to keep him.
