Yes, thank God. If we have a shitty kicker, it's just got to be the person who did NOT replace Kasay. It's just gotta be. I can accept us sucking there, but Mare is cursed with being "that guy". He needs to go, and never come back.

I understand the dissatisfaction with Mare. Just don't understand the "he's gotta go" sentiment. Field goal kickers miss field goals and lose games. My frustration right now is channeled toward the head coach. Too many problems to blame one player until the coach gets his act together. Too many penalties, lousy special teams play, difficulty getting his team to play well in the second half, personnel decisions that include, among others, cutting Kasay. Didn't think too much of his going to Hurney about getting another kicker. Seems like a pointless, stupid move to me. What does it accomplish? Mare isn't going to perform any better because of it. He doesn't miss on purpose.

Mare wasn't a great choice but the worse thing about the situation is the deal Hurney gave him. Just stupid.

Mare could be a helluva guy. But when you pay 3-4 MILLION PER YEAR for a guy who plays maybe 10 plays/game, you expect that kicking will be one of the strengths of your ball club and not cost you two potential wins.

It may not be Mare's fault (I'm looking at you Hurney), but he's got to go... especially now that his confidence is probably shot.

He didn't miss on purpose, no. But he missed.

Two important FGs that change the dynamic of the game. That mean the difference between a win and a loss. Two FGs that were damn near chip shots. He's no better than anyone else out there, only the guy's confidence is shaken and he misses critical FGs.

I can't believe someone actually has an argument to keep our piece of shit kicker... he didn't miss on purpose? really? QB's don't throw interceptions on purpose, RB don't fumble, WR's don't drop balls and Gamble doesn't get burned & miss tackles on purpose...

This guy was the back up to the only kicker drafted last year? He can reach the end zone and he made both attempts in preseason... which was more attempts he had his whole college career... including a 46 yarder. Mare can do some beer commercials with the Gramatica brothers for all I care... He should never attempt another kick in the NFL ever

He was the backup at Nebraska, but he's good enough for the Panthers. :lolly:

What pisses me off, is that what they've done is bring in a guy that can't kick with Kunalic, and in a few days they're gonna say Mare won the kicking competition and is gonna continue to be the team's kicker. They didn't bring in a REAL alternative. Sign Jeff Reed or Shayne Graham. Both those guys would at least be a realistic alternative.
