    Yeah, but the problem is you usually expect non-key linebackers to perform on special teams, while Davis probably can't. I'm still open to bringing him back on the cheap, it's just going to get complicated.

    Too bad about Davis. He really was a hell of LB before the injuries. signing him to a cheaper contract would be the way to go.

    Not giving him a huge contract extension after two ACL injuries would have been the way to go.

    From what I understand the contract had out clauses just for this reason.

    No, it didn't have out-clauses, it just had the option of cutting him after one season. The thing is, Davis was already under contract for this season so no action was even necessary. Hurney raised his cap hit from ~3 million to ~8 million, 5.6 million of which will count against next season's cap if he's cut.
