And keep in mind that the same is true of Newton. In upcoming games pay attention to Cam's eyes when you can. How often does he read one side of the field and then come back to the other? I haven't seen it much. If that isn't happening, then it means that the reads are predefined where Cam is supposed to look at the X or Z first, then come immediately to his checkdown instead of progressing to the other wideout. That's a lot like what I described Linnehan doing with Culpepper in Minnesota. It also explains why Naanee is getting targeted so often.

There's a rush to anoint young players as the next big thing, but it's usually premature and unwarranted. I absolutely acknowledge that Cam is much better as a rookie than I thought he would be, but it's not a surprise that he throws a good deep ball. We knew that and discussed it prior to the draft. What we didn't know is how well Chudzinski would design the offense around him to suit his talents, nor how often he would be throwing. Defenses are watching film and making adjustments, and we'll start to see how Cam & Chud react to that as it happens. If he adapts and continues to improve, then maybe he'll become a true franchise QB and prove me wrong. But a few good games or even a good season doesn't prove anything about a career, just as it didn't for Freeman.

in addition I think Cam's outs and sideline balls have become more consistent.

Good thoughts here. I can understand having been intrigued by either QB.

I'm as big a Cam supporter as there is....was 100% behind us taking him #1...but when I see Trent Dilfer on ESPN today say he's "redefining the QB position" and the dude on the show with him said "Newton" and "Pro Bowl" in the same sentence, I start to worry the hype machine is over-revving and gravity will set in.

Add Flacco to list of young QBs with a few years under their belt that have seemed to have regressed.

I have watched the Redskins game twice.

It was extremely impressive. He threw some AWESOME balls in the second half - really fun stuff. Completed 100% of his passes in the second half. And that run on 3rd down in the first series - wow.

The idea of redefining is silly - Jim Brown didn't 'redefine'. Whatever it is, I LOVE watching him play. He's only 22, and he seems to get better every single game. And if you consider how little he actually played at a collegiate level - wow.

    Can't wait for Sundays.

Welcome to ESPN. The only person affiliated with that network who knows anything is Greg Cosell, and he's not even on-air. It frustrates me that they can't even understand, much less show, how Cam isn't making the reads you would normally expect of an NFL quarterback. That's no slight against Newton, as you shouldn't expect rookies to perform like veterans, but the network should still be able to point that out.

Cam is sort of the opposite of Freeman in that respect. At Auburn he was better throwing outside the hashes than between them.

I check out the games at a local sports bar on Sundays and most times Im the only guy watching the Panthers game. Fans are slowly but surely starting to jump on the Cam bandwagon. The past 2 weeks people who are there to watch their teams game have come over and checked out the Panthers game, asking me how Cam's doing.
