    OR if we had the cap space available (or could create it) we could dump him prior to the end of the year and eat the hit on this year's cap and carry nothing into the new year.

    I hate it for him too, one of my favorite Panthers. We weren't going anywhere this year but it does suck that we now have another big hole to worry about filling next year. No telling how Beason comes back.

    That's what I was hoping could happen.

    Well we have our QB of the future it appears. Hopefully the team can continue to improve this year. Could not be worse news for Thomas Davis or the Panthers as he was probably the best defensive player left on defense. I'd wonder if they keep him anyway for next season. Doubtful but you never know.

    He will get another contract extension. That seems like the natural thing to do.

    No, it counts $5.83 against the 2012 cap regardless. That's why I was so pissed about Hurney giving him an expensive extension. We could have just let him play out this season for $3.5 million, and if he had a good injury-free season then the team could sign him long-term at that point.
