Cam proved he has the potential to play in the league... no doubt... I don't know of anybody that doesn't think the same...

At this point if anyone still thinks Cam doesn't have the potiential to be an NFL QB, that person either hasn't watched yesterday's game or is intellectually dishonest.

I don't think even Newton is impressed with 420 yards. He is pissed that they didn't win the game. That is all that matters to him and all that matters to me.

In my eyes he hasn't done anything wrong since becoming the first player taken in this years draft and I don't think he is going to start any time soon. You can't teach the kind of poise that he plays with. A player either has it or he doesn't.

He won't play that well every week and I hope that losing doesn't break his spirit - somehow I think that Rivera will keep that from happening.

It is evident to me that he has a strong relationship with Mike Shula - from watching them on the sideline shots on TV. I think that is going to help him get through the losing too and also help him reach his full potential which right now I think most people agree is remarkably high.

    I am a fan.

Remember, I was telling Thelt that Newton wouldn't be a bust. But the idea that he's proven in one game that he can be an elite NFL quarterback is clearly an idiotic overreaction.

you were telling thelt that, but you were also saying some things about him (cam), well, that his performance had to give you pause, and some hope. he looked farther along than i think anyone here thinks you thought he would, whether we're correct about that or not. he looked a hell of a lot better than i thought he would. he did make some progressions thru his reads.

personally i thought the throw to goodson at the 1 on the right sideline w/ 1 minute left was catchable as hell. could be the angle, but it hit him in the hands. i know its not the easiest catch in the world, but it looked catchable.

i'm fucking stoked. if he can get teams to stop blitzing all the time, and extend some plays, he's going to be able to burn the shit out of them w/ his legs. its gonna be a tough situation for d's if/when he puts it all together. hell, it'll be a fucking nightmare i hope.

and collin, i hope there is nothing in here you take as baiting, because i'm not.

that's as realistic an analysis as has been posted on this board. course you'd have to have negative nancy blinders on not to see it.

No, he didn't, which is the part that's irritating. You guys are acting like he was suddenly a better quarterback than he was during the preseason, but that's not true. He didn't fix his footwork, he didn't fix his accuracy, he didn't show an ability to read defenses, and he didn't show an ability to go through progressions. He had a lot of yards because Arizona played terrible defense and Cam made some nice throws against bad 1 on 1 coverage. Rex Grossman had a QB rating of 110.5 in Week 1, so does that suddenly make him a good quarterback? Weinke threw for 423 against the Giants in 2006. A lot of yards doesn't mean you were a good quarterback (Tim Tebow threw for 308 against Houston last season).

I thought he was much more accurate Sunday than he was during the preseason. I don't know how, because his mechanics were no better, but the ball wasn't stupid high or in the dirt the way we saw in the preseason.

He is a gamer....for now he's relying on arm strength to overcome technical flaws

Collin is right, he still needs work...the key is going to be how he progresses, he's not going to be 22 forever

With the athletic qbs the problem is if they don't learn to be more technically sound those physical skills fade over time and can't be overcome
