What players worth anything are going to be cut? At this point you're feeling your way through piles of shit looking for a corn nugget.

It's certainly concerning that the team struggled against a pretty weak opponent with a rookie QB. I do like McDermott (for as much ribbing as he gets from fans for looking like Ron Howard) on the sidelines. Team responded with his ass down there, no doubt.

The defensive issues extend beyond DT. Brown/Norwood are doing a horrible job setting the edge on stretch/toss plays, and our LB's (other than Davis) are taking bad angles.

The secondary has been a major disappointment--not just in coverage--but in terms of coming down to make plays in the running game.

Finally: the offensive line is not in sync. Whatsoever. This will need to be addressed in practice. 73 looks horrible out there, and your pair of Pro-Bowlers are not earning their cash. Clausen won't last a full season. Not saying it's his fault. Just looking at the historical facts.

As per Collin: yea, I mean, good for Carolina in landing Balmer--might be able to contribute. And maybe, it's just a matter of finding 2-3 more "role players" rather than Asante Samuel to round it out. But there's not "one guy" out there that will swing the team to 2-3 additional wins.

    Newton's accuracy is a concern.

I hope to fucking fuck fuck fuck that Collin is wrong and he can be fixed.

Well, I don't have the credentials to speak to how QB's in the NFL go about correcting "accuracy" issues, but it's pretty clear his footwork (as with ALL QB's) is the catalyst for this.

I can tell you that play selection is a big part of it. Equal to that is the QB's ability to read progressions, look off defenders. If those two "mental" elements could improve, he becomes a better QB overnight. He looked better under center with Chud moving the pocket.

Not to be a blind optimist, but Chud's playbook is fairly deep--as you know. I'm fairly sure a lot of the concepts we saw in camp--many of which we were told not to "tweet" about to fans--will be unleashed in Arizona. Does that mean Cam will play well? I dunno.

I just know the offense you're seeing now is vanilla compared to what's been installed in Spartanburg.

I hope so. These three preseason games didn't show solid fundamental play-calling, if you ask me. Starting off three straight series in the second quarter with a play action pass attempt is not my idea of imaginative.

And what happened to featuring the tight end? And the slant route, too? I would also expect more of a commitment to the run with such a lack of experience under center.

It's clear to me anyway that the coaching staff is keeping the play calls generic. Make some sense, considering the lack of OTA's, Steve Smith's injury, the need to evaluate talent and the desire to keep some secrets.

Chud wanted to try and connect with the WRs last night, but Newton simply couldn't. I don't think that's going to change during the regular season.
