Depends on your thought. Several coaches won't start a rookie and others feel like it's the best way to get them ready by throwing them to the wolves. I never though Clausen was the sole reason the Panthers sucked last year what with the offensive line being as horrid as it was. Clausen doesn't have near the arm that Newton has and judging by his 2 games he didn't break away and run when the first option wasn't there. He stepped up and threw it away or to someone else. At least we didn't trade away the first round pick again. Maybe we we can draft a top notch DT next year or an OT if Otah doesn't play again

There's an element of Newton's game--though he's not Desean Jackson at QB--that will present a better opportunity for 34/28 to succeed, with or without Otah. We don't run an Alex Gibbs zone scheme, but if you recall, Dunn/Duckett and others were the beneficiaries of Vick's threat on the perimeter with his legs.

Again, to me, it's more to the effect of Newton bringing what this offense lacked in 2010: the ability to extend plays and create some chaos for a defense. He has thrown his share of picks in practice, and like all rookies, he's going to make some bonehead plays if he starts in 2011. But he's trying to run Chud's offense. Clausen was/still is playing not to lose his starting gig. He's the fucking Chip Beck of quarterbacks.

Clausen can be a solid pocket passer, and he's got some mobility too. I just don't think he has much confidence in himself--particularly on throws that are 15+ yards in the middle of the field.

Most every coach that drafts a QB in the first round starts them from day one. Other than Tebow/Freeman, all of them (Sanchez, Ryan, Flacco, Bradford, Stafford) have started opening day, rookie year. 41-30 record for the 5 mentioned above, and that's with Stafford's record weighing it down.

Nobody is anyone else, ok. Newton is not Freeman, or Sanchez, or Ryan. His set of challenges are unique, coming from a one-read system and no OTA's.

I still start him if it's my call, from day one. But, it's not my call--thus, not my problem.

still zone, but regardless, if there's someone worried about backside, you're 6 on 6 in the box.

I actually wish the playing time would be reversed. I think we know what to expect from Newton this year. He will have a hell of an arm and push the ball down the field but he has serious mechanical flaws that will take away for his effectiveness.

Clausen has shown much better this season compared last and he seems more poised. I would like to see him play a bit more vs the ones.

Chip Beck analogy is becoming stale.

I agree and would like to add that just because Cam has it and everyone knows he's going to be a big star in the NFL doesn't mean that you throw caution to the wind by starting him too early.

Once again - what is there to prove? Isn't this about getting more fans in the stadium to buy $7.00 beer and $4.00 bottled water?

We run zone primarily, or elements of it?

I get the 6 on 6 deal. There's no question that when Vick left Atlanta, Dunn's production went down--PRIMARILY due to the disappearance of cutback opportunities.

My (bad) memories of giving up 200 yards rushing to Atlanta from like 02-06, with a few exceptions, keep coming back and I recall some hellacious cutback lanes. When, say, Doug Johnson was in the game, no so much.

Why does Cam throw with both feet off the ground most times? If he's not throwing off his back foot, it's as if he jumps in the air when he lets the ball go. Look at the tape. His fundamentals suck.
