going with a less rigid philosophy should help. I have no problem with being C2/C3 but both do lead toward outside coverage, limitations inside.

Yea, I kinda agreed with your 2nd sentence. Which is why I was a little miffed at the whole "go check your stats" line.

Had another guy, a Gantt follower, harass me on da twittas last night about it. Told me "not about the scheme, it's about the stats"

I retorted that "the schematics/execution thereof lead to the stats, good or bad as they may be".

He kept drilling the point home that SD never uses a #2 WR. At that point, I just folded up the social media tent.

Here's a stat for you to use: San Diego wideouts who weren't the #1 option in a particular game last season accounted for 1478 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Gantt is working the Winthrop beat for the RH Herald. He's also freelancing, and had one of his stories picked up by The Sporting News online on Sunday. Though everyone seems to think I hate the guy, I don't, and I'm still curious about his rapid reassignment.

Glad the freelance thing is going somewhere. I was wondering why he was so active.

I've never had a problem with him. Or anybody babbling about football.

Gantt is a cockmustard clown who shouldn't be covering any level of sports. His staggering ignorance of all football-related concepts wouldn't be so bad if he was humble and willing to learn, or if he was just that stunning with his prose. Instead he's a hack who got elevated to some bizarre form of relevance because almost 25 years after becoming a professional sports town, Charlotte still doesn't even have the concept of standards when it comes to journalism, much less enforcement.

Thanks to Larry (and I'm surprised they don't hate him for this - or maybe they do), I got a peek behind the curtain quite a while back, and it shocked me how little the people covering sports actually knew about them. Now I don't expect a columnist to be a former coach or converse with that level of verbiage, but I do expect a rudimentary understanding of the concepts, along with a desire to expand that knowledge in order to improve the quality of coverage. I'm just some fantasy football spaz, but I take that seriously enough to keep reading football-related books, and to spend hundreds of hours each off-season watching games to evaluate college players. You would think that those privileged enough to get paid as beat writers and columnists would feel compelled to meet an even higher standard, but instead they rest on their non-existent laurels and act like having that position somehow makes them informed or even credible.

And yeah, I'm bitter about it. I'm bitter that someone gets paid to slipshod, 5th grade book report-quality coverage of the team, and I'm especially pissed that these J-school rejects are so arrogant and complacent that they act like access somehow validates their work. I'm being completely sincere when I say that Dukey's youtube videos are far more interesting and informative than anything I've seen from Gantt. The guy is a douche, and it's a joke that someone who knows that little about football ever got paid a dime to cover it.

that dickish type response just doesn't work with trying to actually talk about anything. Did he say anything about intellectual honesty? :tt1:
Yeah there's no reason to dismiss the position. I think with the low number of targets it'll get, you don't want to spend high dollar there. We have good cheap guys we can throw at it. But those guys have to make plays. Smith, he'll get his, the TEs and DW will get receptions, but it's that ability to hit them with a guy they didn't spend time practicing to stop, that makes a big difference.

I mean, we can run the F post to Olsen all day, and get 100 yards on it, but being able to use a Gettis downfield could've broken some games. That does hurt us. We'll make it, and I wouldn't have spent the money that Santana Moss is supposed to have turned down here, but it still sucks to have less ability there. This isn't the same 2 TE offense we had last year, far from. You have to have contributors.
