I always liked him, too. Was amazing to watch in '03.

I was in Giants Stadium one night for a preseason game (i lived in Jersey at the time) and he went at it with Giants fans the entire fourth quarter.

He was a very good player for a few seasons. Injuries kept him from being the top DT in the league. Glad we got something out of him when he left, he was done by then and did not know it yet.

Completely wrong yet again. Jenkins was far from done. He actually continued to play at a very high level after leaving here, it's just that injuries preventing him from maintaining that level for very long. It's unfortunate, not only because of his talent but because he seemed to actually care about succeeding. Best of luck to him in the rest of his life.

He had one good year with the Jets then played 6 games and then 1 game and then got cut. I guess it means different things to different people when you say "he was done" but I suspect the Jets were hoping for a lot more out of him than they got.

The Jets were a dramatically better defense when he was healthy than when he was not. Saying someone is "done" generally means that they have lost their ability to contribute, but that wasn't true of Jenkins. He was still a monster when he could get on the field, but unfortunately injuries kept getting in the way.

I'd have gladly kept him, and with him, we'd have been better. We wouldn't have been any better at DT otherwise, and we wouldn't have been prepared for his injuries any better than we were.

Maybe he makes the 08 defense here better, but it had major issues.

Anyway, given that he didn't want to be here, getting a four year starter at FS isn't so bad. Given the option, just as with Peppers, I'd definitely prefer to have had him, but that option absent you do your best. In this case outside of actually replacing him, we did OK. We've had a grand total of one good interior defensive lineman pick in 16 or so years so who knows.

Perhaps "done" was not the best way to put it. I am, however, glad that we moved him when we did and got something out of him. He did not have many games left in him before injuries finished him off.
