I would think schemes would contribute. As would time-to-throw.

There's no perfect formula, because blocking is a team/squad event and the football play is a fluid calculus, but if limited to pass blocking and the measurements we all agree on, the guy's analysis ain't that outta whack.

We see the false starts, and they're infuriating, but I think Gross is a top-ten tackle in this league.

Sure, that's logical. Hal Hunter isn't setting out to rank unrelated players, he's doing QA. Since PFF does their own play charting it's up to them to lay blame on where a breakdown lies, with a different reason to do it.

also looked up his penalty numbers (which should enter into some form of formulary to rank them honestly) and he had 4 through last year, and 1 in 9 games in 2009.

Gross has been a solid guy from the start. He is a good player but not a spectacular guy. Considering he plays left tackle, which is a premium spot in the NFL, we are lucky to have him.

There was a lot of talk about taking Leftwich that year. He went before we picked so it was a moot point but still Gross was by far the better pick.

We screwed up a lot in that draft after the first round. We took Bruce Nelson ahead of Anquan Boldin and Osi Umuneyoira. We took Mike Siedman ahead of Vinnie Schiancoe. We took Colin Branch one pick ahead of Asante Samuel (ouch!). We took Kendal Moorehead before David Diehl and Dan Koppen. We finally took Walter Young ahead of Kevin Walter.

Granted you are not going to get them all right but imagine if we had gotten Boldin and Samuel in that draft. The whole franchise might be different. Imagine Steve Smith and Boldin in the same offense for all these years.

    fuck Colin Branch.

wanted Witten in the 2nd. Nobody saw Boldin being what he was but Witten seemed a no brainer.
