That's what made the American Needle vs NFL case important. They tried to agrue that, at least in the realm of merchandising, the NFL was a single entity. While the local and appelate court agreed, the supreme court did not.

To be a single entity, all financial decisons need to be made in consort with each other. They don't and that's probably never going to happen.

Here's a good breakdown of the impact.

Will teams be able to sign undrafted rookies now?

Yeah, the owners are extremely unlikely to ever create that conglomerate and give up so much of their independence, but it would be the way to once and for all crush the players.

Looks like the players get whatever they want, and the inmates are now running the prison.

Seriously, what rights to the owners have? None anymore? They can't close their own doors? This sets...eh...I don't like this. I hate it. It fucks us royally now with that 1st pick.

If anyone was even THINKING about trading up???

    Not anymore.

Fucking players, man. Whatever they want, they get. I hope the owners find a way to FUCK them, so we can get a goddamn fair deal (the players know it isnt fair) and we can move on. Fucking little bitches.

At the very least, it means players can be traded now. Maybe we get a second for Smith? Or we shop him?

It'll make the trades more interesting, and definitely put us out of the running for trading the 1st. Any hope we had to trade down just got shot to shit.

And now we're going to pay Newton 50 billion dollars per minute of the contract life.

forcing a 2011 season without real negotiation likely means 2010 rules, which benefits the team greatly in keeping veterans like DW, but means you're likely stuck with Newton for 6-7 years and tons of money, as opposed to four with a merely oppressive contract.

so, why does the NFL keep getting the screw in all this?

    This could have significant consequences.

With this ruling, does it affect our decision with the #1 pick? Does it make us take a route less risky than a QB with the 2010 rules in place?
